Lucy Mae Law was on holiday in Tenerife with the teen last year when he went missing and his body was later found in a ravine. An inquest ruled that his death was accidental
Lucy Mae Law has reappeared on social media for the first time since the inquest Jay Slater’s death finished earlier this year.
She was one of the last people to see her close pal before the 19-year-old went missing on June 17 last year while on holiday in Tenerife. Following a massive manhunt, the apprentice bricklayer from Lancashire was sadly found dead almost a month later.
Coroner Dr James Adeley concluded that the teen’s death was accidental and due to a traumatic head injury after he fell from around 100ft. Lucy initially failed to attend the inquest in May of this year, which was adjourned, she eventually gave evidence via video link two months later.
Lucy has now uploaded her first Instagram post since the ruling on Jay’s tragic passing. In it, a photo of what looks like Valencia City Hall in Spain is shown from below against a cloudy blue sky.
During the inquest in July it was heard how Jay had sent a fateful six-word response to Lucy after she offered to meet him on the night he disappeared.
She shared a response from him where he claimed he was “on a mission” after he went missing from the rest of the group.
She told the inquest: “We all split up to try and find him in the place but then none of us could find him in there so at this point our phones were nearly dead and he was still not answering his phone.
“We left to see if we could find him outside. We had a look on The Strip. At this point I thought he’s probably made mates with someone or has found a girl and ventured off.”
Lucy continued: “Then he messaged us and said ‘I’m in Oasis’. We couldn’t see him. Then he messaged saying he was in Sugar Reef which is two or three clubs up. But we couldn’t see him there either.”
At 2.48am Lucy messaged Jay saying: “I’ll come and get you,” and then a minute later he replied: “Doesn’t matter, I’m on a mission.”
During the pair’s last conversation, which lasted 10 seconds, Jay told Lucy: “I’m in the middle of nowhere”.
Lucy asked Jay to try and describe what he could see but Jay said: “there is literally nothing but mountains,” after which she began to panic for the safety of her mate.
The inquest at Coroner’s Court, where the inquest concluded that: “Jay Dean Slater died on 17th June 2024 in the Juan Lopez ravine in a remote area of Tenerife.
“Whilst attempting to descend the ravine Jay fell in a difficult area. Jay Slater fell approximately 20 to 25 metres resulting in skull fracture and brain trauma from which he would have died instantly.
“There was no third party involved. Jay Dean Slater died an accidental death.”
