A new viral trend has taken over TikTok, and the so-called “elite” group is Group 7
A viral TikTok trend captures public attention and frequently unites people. However, the latest craze sweeping For You Pages on the platform is actually splitting users into factions.
And true to internet culture: being part of one particular group is considered far superior to the rest. This phenomenon was launched by musician Sophia James, who cleverly manipulated the algorithm to boost her new track ‘So Unfair.’
Basically, she uploaded seven clips of her new tune to TikTok, captioning each “you are in group [insert number here.]” There were seven groups in total, with the Group 7 video being posted last. The clips then developed their own momentum, with the internet collectively declaring Group 7 as superior, exclusive, and the most desirable to join.
Following James’s video series, Group 7 became branded as “elite” and “cool,” with members of the group creating their own TikTok content, reports the Mirror US.
An inside joke amongst internet strangers
TikTok user Reba discussed the influence of Group 7. “I haven’t seen anything like this in a while,” she remarks in her clip.
“It’s also immaculate marketing.”
She continues by explaining the phenomenon, noting that “everyone is using her song” in their own TikTok content.
How can you determine which group you’re in?
Your group membership depends on which clip appears first on your feed. If the Group 7 video shows up on your timeline before any others, that determines your group affiliation.
Given that the Group 7 clip has racked up more views than the rest, there’s a chance you could be the selected individual to gain access to Group 7.
Which famous faces and companies have hopped aboard the Group 7 phenomenon?
Actress Madelyn Cline, content creator Hayleyy Baylee, skincare giant Aveeno, and even motor company Hyundai USA have all gotten involved with the craze.
Motor giant Hyundai USA responded to James’ Group 7 TikTok declaring, “Group 7 is superior.”
Meanwhile, skincare brand Aveeno chimed in with, “I heard group 7 has really great skin..”
Where’s the Group 7 gathering happening?
Following the trend’s explosive popularity, James has arranged a get-together for everyone belonging to Group 7.
The inaugural gathering is scheduled for Friday, 24th October, at 7:00 p. m.
at The Antelope Pub in London.
