Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim knows he must do something against Brighton that once would have seemed so simple at Old Trafford to end a near-50 game wait

Manchester United have at last brought Ruben Amorim’s lengthy wait for consecutive Premier League victories to an end.

The Red Devils claimed an outstanding 2-1 triumph at Anfield on Sunday to follow up their success against Sunderland prior to the international break, moving them to within two points of champions Liverpool in the table and lifting them up to ninth.

It represented a weight lifted from Amorim’s shoulders and a much-needed boost for United following an inconsistent start to the season. The task now for the Portuguese boss and his squad is to discover consistency and transform consecutive victories into a hat-trick of wins and set right a shocking record.

The encounter with Brighton presents an opportunity to achieve precisely that, while offering Amorim another milestone.

United are aiming for a top-six finish this campaign after a woeful domestic showing last term, but they won’t be capable of competing for European qualification without consistently linking victories together, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Therefore, whilst the triumph at Liverpool – United’s first there in almost a decade – deserves recognition and celebration, it must serve as a foundation rather than a one-off.

“I wouldn’t go as far as to say Man United are back but it’s a huge win for them,” declared former United captain Roy Keane at the weekend.

“They’re winning a few matches now, they’ve won at Liverpool so they’ve got to take that belief now into the game next week against Brighton.

“Enjoy a little bit of success tonight, no doubt the fans will have a few drinks but stay focused and stay in the zone.

“They’ve now got to build on it.”

Brighton have given United a run for their money at Old Trafford in recent seasons, coming out on top in their last three visits.

However, if United can break this recent trend and bag another three points, it will mark the first time they’ve won three consecutive Premier League matches since February 2024.

Back then, Rasmus Hojlund was on fire, netting five goals during a four-match winning streak that kicked off with a last-minute triumph at Wolves and also saw United defeat West Ham at Old Trafford and secure victories away at Aston Villa and Luton Town.

That victory at Kenilworth Road, sealed by an early brace from Hojlund, took place 49 top-flight matches ago. It’s high time United repeated the feat.
