Coronation Street star Ryan Mulvey has addressed fan concerns that Brody Michaelis is set for an exit already after just eight months in the role.
Coronation Street’s Ryan Mulvey has addressed fans’ worries after he labelled himself an “unemployed actor” in a recent TikTok video, leading to speculation about his character Brody Michaelis’s future on the cobbles.
Ryan, who joined the soap eight months ago following a stint on Hollyoaks where he was involved in a sibling sexual abuse plotline, sparked concern among viewers with a brief clip captioned: “A day in the life of an unemployed actor.”
The post prompted a flurry of anxious comments from fans, with one querying: “Unemployed?? Please tell me Brody hasn’t left!”
Another chimed in with: “Wait what? You leaving Corrie?”
In a subsequent video, Ryan reassured fans that Brody isn’t packing his bags just yet, although he might be less visible on screen for a while.
He clarified: “Quickly wanna address also, I’m still at Coronation Street. As all actors know, you go through really busy and really quiet periods. I’m just in a quiet period, in between storylines and whatnot.
“I’m not filming until, like, the New Year. But as soap actors, that’s kind of what you do. You just go from really busy to really quiet.”
He added by explaining his online activity, saying: “I’m just doing… these videos to basically fill my time and make a bit of fun content for you guys to enjoy.”
Only last month, Brody found himself at the centre of a dramatic car crash storyline after he and Dylan Wilson nicked vehicles for Carl Webster.
Speaking to Soap Scoop, he revealed: “That’s been so much fun. Just firstly filming it – you get to go on location and drive quite a posh car, which is fun.
“And then doing it with someone who’s similar in age – like with Liam (McCheyne, who plays Dylan) and you’re on set driving a Porsche. So that was absolutely brilliant!”
Earlier this week, Ryan’s co-star Vicky Myers, who portrays Lisa Swain, became the first cast member from the cobbles to be announced for the forthcoming Corriedale special.
The episode will see a unique crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Meanwhile, Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, was revealed as the first representative from the Dales to take part in the collaboration.
“To be involved in this unique, bold, innovative, not to mention history-making episode, in Coronation Street’s 65th year, (well, when we are filming it at least), is fantastic,” Vicky expressed in a statement.
“When I read the script and found out how two worlds collide, who is involved and how the characters interact, not to mention the impact the events of the night will have… Wow. It’s going to be unmissable.”
She added: “I couldn’t wait to get started actually. This has been in the pipeline for quite some time and the talented team behind the scenes at Coronation Street and Emmerdale, has worked tirelessly to make this happen. They’re incredible.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting, and working with, people I haven’t met or worked with before, both in front of and behind the camera. It’s incredibly exciting and the camaraderie is great. It’s going to be epic.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
