Liverpool were thumped 3-2 by Brentford in the Premier League as Arne Slot’s side suffered a fourth successive defeat in the top-flight and here we run the rule over the Reds’ performance
Liverpool suffered another Premier League defeat, losing to Brentford in a disappointing match on Saturday evening.
Dango Outtara and Kevin Schade netted goals in the first half, followed by Milos Kerkez scoring just before half-time.
However, Igor Thiago’s penalty after the break and Mohamed Salah’s late goal resulted in a 3-2 loss for the Reds.
This defeat marks the fourth consecutive top-flight game loss for Arne Slot’s team, making it Liverpool’s worst run since February 2021.
Here are Liverpool’s player ratings for the clash…
Giorgi Mamardashvili, 6 – Unable to prevent any of Brentford’s goals but made a few good saves from range. His distribution was tested throughout the game, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Conor Bradley, 6 – Conceding a soft throw-in that led to the opening goal. His forward runs were sporadic in the first half until his low cross for Kerkez helped set up the first goal.
Ibrahima Konate, 5 – Having a physical battle against Thiago. Although he ensured the Brentford forward knew he was there, he lost focus for the second goal and never seemed truly comfortable.
Virgil van Dijk, 5 – With a couple of good defensive headers. However, his decision-making was questioned at times, and he was somewhat unlucky to concede a soft penalty.
Milos Kerkez, 4 – Irritating Van Dijk with some of his positional play in the first half. He didn’t pose much threat going forward until he managed to score just before half-time.
Dominik Szoboszlai, 7 – Worked hard to push Liverpool forward in the opening quarter and stepped up where others didn’t. His assist for the second goal was commendable, but his time at right-back again seemed a clear misuse of his talents.
Curtis Jones, 7 – Handled the ball well in tight spots and had his defensive skills tested on occasion. Deserved better support from his teammates.
Mohamed Salah, 5 – Lost his footing when found by Gakpo and remained largely on the sidelines before the break. Managed one blocked shot in the second half but clearly lacked confidence, despite scoring a great second goal.
Florian Wirtz, 4 – Started off well and saw a fair amount of action before missing a good opportunity and then fading significantly, despite a commendable work-rate. Was substituted.
Cody Gakpo, 5 – Created a chance for Salah, took one shot over the bar and had an ambitious penalty claim dismissed, but was off form in the second half. Was substituted.
Hugo Ekitike, 5 – Partially responsible for Brentford’s first two goals and struggled with ball control, but his disruptive presence near the post led to a Liverpool goal.
Subs:
Federico Chiesa (for Gakpo 62), 5 – Didn’t make much of an impact.
Andy Robertson (for Kerkez 62), 5 – Couldn’t do much.
Alexis Mac Allister (for Bradley 62), 6 – It was good to see the Argentina international back on the pitch.
Rio Ngumoha (for Jones 71), 6 – It was a big ask for the teenager to turn this game around.
Joe Gomez (for Wirtz 83), 6 – Perhaps he should be playing more often.
