Strictly Come Dancing fans were left divided over La Voix’s performance on Saturday night as they said one aspect of the routine from Icons Week ‘wasn’t needed’

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have voiced a complaint about contestant La Voix, suggesting an element of their performance was “unnecessary”. La Voix, 45, also known as Chris Dennis off-stage, is the first drag artist to compete in the main series, following Tayce, 31, who won last year’s Christmas special with Kai Widdrington.

Last week’s performance was one they’d rather forget, as La Voix and Aljaž received a score of just 14 out of 40 for their Cha Cha to Pat Benatar’s Hit Me With Your Best Shot. Craig Revel Horwood likened the dance to “going to the dentist”, while head judge Shirley Ballas said she ‘couldn’t judge’ the performance, awarding them just two points.

This week, La Voix was determined to improve on what they described as a “mortifying” experience. Before taking to the dance floor, La Voix humorously asked Claudia Winkleman how to submit a job application to the BBC, after it was announced that the couple were stepping down from hosting duties at the end of this series.

“Claudia, while I’ve got you, do you know the address when you send your CV to the BBC? Just in case any new jobs are coming up,” she joked, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Laughing, Claudia told La Voix that she’s more than welcome to “give it a go” and let her say “Tess” as the camera cut to her co-host. Shortly after the exchange, La Voix and Aljaž took on the Salsa to Cher’s Strong Enough, with the drag queen dressed up as the pop icon.

The routine, which was the final one of the night, opened in a unique fashion with La Voix singing the song before she and Aljaž began to dance. Having his say on the performance, Craig Revel Horwood said: “You are, I guess, a bit of a comeback queen because last week was so appalling – anything would be better!”

La Voix quipped back: “I knew you’d love it Craig because you’re the only judge who remembers Cher’s career from the beginning.” The move garnered huge cheers from the audience.

The judges awarded them 28 out of 40 points, but some Strictly fans took to X to express their opinion that the singing was unnecessary. One viewer tweeted: “The singing has spoilt it for me it wasn’t needed.”

A second user fumed added: “This is not a singing competition.” Whilst a third posted: “La Voix just singing half the song… absolute diva.”

However, others enjoyed La Voix’s vocals at the start, as she kicked her performance off in style. One impressed viewer took to social media to say: “What a comeback from La Voix and Aljaž loved this salsa and can we talk about the singing at the beginning of the dance it was incredible.”

Last night’s scores saw EastEnders star Lewis Cope finish on top with 34 points being received from the judges, whilst social media star and heartthrob George Clarke failed to impress, earning just 27 points. However, the final results will be revealed during Sunday’s show (October 26).
