EastEnders fans are convinced they have worked out the true identity of Zoe Slater’s baby daddy after the character made a dramatic return to the BBC soap this week
EastEnders viewers reckon they’ve cracked the mystery surrounding the paternity of Zoe Slater’s twins, and it’s someone who you’d not expect.
Zoe (played by Michelle Ryan) made a dramatic comeback to Walford this week after two decades, reuniting with her mum, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).
The plot thickened when Zoe was accidentally shot amidst a scuffle between Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).
Her former flame, Doctor Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey), rushed to provide medical aid before the arrival of paramedics. However, as Zoe’s condition worsened, viewers were transported back to 2006 through a series of flashbacks.
These revealed that Zoe had given birth to twins. However, after delivery, she found only one baby, a boy, leading her to believe the girl twin had sadly passed away, reports OK!.
Zoe hastily abandoned her newborn son for adoption and fled. Recently, however, she has been on a mission to find her long-lost child.
The exact timeline of Zoe’s pregnancy remains unclear, but it’s plausible that she was expecting when she left Walford in June 2005 and gave birth sometime in 2006.
While some fans are speculating that Max Branning (Jake Wood) or Anthony could be the father of Zoe’s twins, others have a more surprising theory. According to chatter on an EastEnders Facebook fan page, viewers are suggesting that Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) could be the dad.
One viewer speculated: “Right hear me out – what if Alfie and Zoe slept together when Zoe found out Kat was back with Anthony back in the day and the twins were actually Alfie’s. Wouldn’t that be crazy if the reason why Zoe won’t tell her is because she knows it will split up the family.”
Another fan added their two cents, saying: “I mean it’s possible!” A third concurred: “There’s a thought… that’s why Alfie was so interested in finding Zoe.”
In other news, Michelle, who plays Zoe, recently disclosed that one of the reasons for her soap comeback was her desire for steady work.
In an interview with Radio Times, she expressed her enjoyment of the flexibility to choose roles and juggle theatre and film work. “But there comes a time when you think, actually, it would be great to have a routine,” Michelle admitted.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One.
