The Strictly Come Dancing star was left “gutted” after making a mistake during her performance on Saturday night’s show.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Carlos Gu was swift to console his dance partner Karen Carney after an on-air mishap led to a bout of “self criticism.”

The ex-England Lioness made history as the first footballer in 18 years to top the Strictly leaderboard with her highest score in week one.

However, since then, Karen has struggled to regain her position at the pinnacle of the Strictly scoring charts.

The star made her comeback to the dance floor on Saturday (October 25) night for Icons week. She and Carlos performed the Rumba to Celine Dion’s Think Twice, earning a score of 28 out of 40 from the judges.

But the sportswoman was left “gutted” after making a mistake during her performance that didn’t escape the judges’ notice, reports Wales Online.

On Thursday’s (October 30) episode of Strictly spin-off It Takes Two, host Janette Manrara quickly noted: “You were so excited to dance the rumba but you were gutted about how it went on the night.”

The TV host then asked: “Why were you so disappointed, what happened?” Karen explained: “Because I missed a move. I missed a hand, a run and a spin but it’s gone now.”

Shifting her focus to dance partner Carlos, Janette queried: “You were so proud of Kaz. What is it like for you to have a celeb who is so self critical?”

Carlos confessed: “She always corrects herself in the rehearsal, she says ‘I could have done better’ ‘I knew where I went wrong’ but I always talk to her and say on the night whatever happens just enjoy it.”

The professional dancer then offered his partner a tender embrace whilst adding: “I felt a bit emotional when I saw her gutted and blaming herself saying ‘I could have done better’ but it’s life.”

Janette subsequently revealed the touching note the footballer had received from her mate Jill Scott, explaining: “You were brilliant plus you had so much love online especially from your good friend Jill Scott.”

The It Takes Two presenter pressed further: “With so much support has that changed the self criticism a little bit?”

Karen confessed: “Yes it did and to hear that message from Jill was really sweet and from everyone else it was amazing. I think everything happens for a reason and now I feel more relaxed this week.”

She continued: “I feel more relaxed because that happened and we carried on, we moved on and it is what it is. Things happen for a reason so I take it more positive this week.”

Strictly It Takes Two airs weekdays from 6.30pm on BBC 2 and iPlayer and Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday at 6.55pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
