Prince Andrew has been stripped of his HRH title by King Charles and will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor

Andrew has been stripped of his Royal title and will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The King’s brother is also set to leave his home in Royal Lodge for ‘private accommodation’, Buckingham Palace confirmed last night.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

Andrew will maintain his position as eighth in line to the throne after Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reports the Express.

This comes in the wake of Andrew’s association with Jeffery Epstein tarnishing the reputation of the Royal family. For several years, he has also been dogged by claims he sexually abused Virginia Giuffre, who was trafficked by Epstein, allegations which Andrew has consistently and vehemently denied.

King Charles is understood to have made the decision in light of Andrew’s serious lapses in judgement, a move that is reportedly backed by Charles’ son, Prince William.

The King will finance Andrew’s new home on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk and it is believed he will relocate from his 30-bed mansion to the property as soon as it can feasibly be arranged.

Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who currently lives with her former husband in Royal Lodge, will not be provided with a new house by King Charles and will need to seek alternative accommodation.

Several former Palace staff members have previously come forward to recount their experiences of what they observed in Andrew’s previous bedroom at Buckingham Palace during their service, including teddy bears on the bed. Charlotte Briggs, a former maid who worked at the Palace in the mid-90s, claimed that the prince had 72 cuddly toys on his bed.

She said the toys had to be organised in size order, and it took staff an entire day to learn how to arrange them on his bed. Speaking to The Sun, she explained: “As soon as I got the job, I was told about the teddies, and it was drilled into me how he wanted them. I even had a day’s training. Everything had to be just right. It was so peculiar.”

She added: “But he absolutely loved the teddies and was very clear about how he wanted them arranged.”

The biggest teddies were apparently placed at the back, with the rest organised in descending size order leading down to the tiniest at the front. Charlotte claimed the prince’s two most beloved teddies were positioned on mahogany thrones next to his bed.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward, whose latest book, My Mother and I, implied his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson slept surrounded by the teddies during their marriage. The expert said she was encompassed by “around a dozen teddy bears” on his bed throughout their union.

Meanwhile, an ITV documentary about Andrew suggested there were handwritten directions for arranging the toys and other items in the room. Former Royal protection officer Paul Page claimed the handwritten manual supposedly included two toy hippos, a black panther and bears, plus three cushions marked ‘Daddy’, ‘Ducks’ and ‘Prince’.

It showed exactly where to place blankets, along with five toys and a fur, which had ribbons that needed to hang from the bed’s side.

Paul said the instructions were laminated and titled “DOY bed: Points for turn down and making the bed”, with Andrew keeping the corresponding diagram close to his bed whilst living at the Palace. Ex-Mirror reporter Ryan Parry, who famously infiltrated Buckingham Palace by securing a job there, has also given us a glimpse into Andrew’s private quarters.

He managed to work undercover at the palace for two months in 2003, using fake references to expose significant security flaws.

During his stint, he had unrestricted access to Andrew’s personal flat and stumbled upon an ongoing joke among the household staff involving a stuffed monkey.

The toy, which was the mascot of the former ITV Digital and a puppet companion of comedian Johnny Vegas, was found in unexpected places such as the mouth of a taxidermied leopard.
