That has caused a stir in the football world, but with Christmas Day itself falling on a Thursday, the decision has been made to play the festive fixtures like a normal weekend.

The Premier League has announced that it will be Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United that play at home on December 26, when they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

After that, on Saturday, December 27, is when the majority of the top-flight sides play, with Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City the lunchtime offering as turkey sandwiches are made.

It then leaves Arsenal and Liverpool as 3pm kick-offs on the Saturday, with the Gunners hosting Brighton and Hove Albion, and the champions taking on Wolves.

Brentford welcome Bournemouth to the Gtech Community Stadium, Burnley travel to Everton, and West Ham and Fulham face off in the other 3pm clashes.

Chelsea round off December 27 with the tea-time game against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

On the Sunday, Sunderland take on Leeds United, before Tottenham traverse the Thames to take on Crystal Palace in the 4.30pm kick-off.

Moving towards the New Year’s games, they will be treated like a normal midweek bout of matches.

There are four 7.30pm kick-offs on December 30, with two more at 8.15pm as the festive fun continues.

Of those 7.30pm starts, Chelsea hosting Bournemouth is the highlight, while West Ham take on Brighton.
