Experts have revealed they are seeing a huge rise in last minute alterations with 98% of brides experiencing rapid body changes before the big day
Brides and grooms slimming down with fat jabs are wreaking havoc on dressmakers and tailors.
Many are struggling to keep up with high numbers of alternations as more and more couples use weight loss jabs ahead of their weddings. Research has shown that 98% of brides experience rapid body changes between their engagement and their nuptials.
And bridal boutiques said the problem was becoming much worse as the number of people on weight loss injections soars. Experts at Dotty Bridal said they are seeing a huge rise in last-minute fittings, complex alterations, and full-dress replacements just weeks or days before the ceremony.
Owner Shannon Martin, said: “We’re witnessing a growing issue within the industry linked to the rise in weight loss.
“Dramatic body changes in a shorter period, mean that dresses which once fit perfectly during fittings can suddenly require extensive, complex alterations or in some cases, cannot be adjusted enough to fit safely or beautifully, resulting in heightened stress for both parties.”
Recent research conducted by online Chemist4U, supports these concerns with nearly six in ten (62%) felt unsure about the right time to place an order, while more than nine in ten (95%) said they would have welcomed expert advice during the process, underlining just how many feel unprepared managing rapid weight loss without proper guidance.
The findings from online pharmacy Chemist4U also revealed the pressure was most intense among brides aged 25–34, who were both the most likely to start weight-loss injections early and needing multiple fittings for their wedding dress.
Brides in Belfast (95%) and Leeds (96%) were most likely to start weight loss injections in the lead-up to their big day, closely followed by London (88%) and Manchester (88%).
Ayesha Bashir, weight loss specialist and prescribing pharmacist at Chemist4U, added: “We’re seeing a growing trend of brides turning to weight loss injections as part of their pre-wedding routine and it’s often driven by a genuine desire to feel confident and in control.
“But starting early is essential. A healthy, sustainable weight loss is typically around one to two pounds per week.
“The body can adapt over time, and many experience plateaus where weight loss slows.
“Brides who begin the process sooner give themselves time to work through these stages and avoid last-minute stress.”
