The UK is set to be hit by a big freeze this month, with temperatures plummeting to -1C in parts of the country. WXCharts has forecast wintry weather to sweep across 34 counties in two weeks time

Brace yourselves, as parts of the UK are set to be blasted with freezing temperatures this month.

WXCharts predicts a wintry chill to sweep across 34 counties on November 18, bringing temperatures down to -1C and icy winds.

As we move into November, the Met Office anticipates typical blustery weather with further rain showers, along with strong winds and potential gales in the northwest. However, as the month unfolds, weather patterns are expected to stabilise, with drier spells becoming more frequent and temperatures likely to rise above average by mid-November.

On November 18, the coldest spot will be Cairngorms National Park, near Braemar and Balmoral, where the mercury will drop to -1C. Eight Scottish counties will experience 0C (Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Argyll and Bute, South Lanarkshire, Scottish borders), while the rest of the country will see lows of 1C.

In England, six counties will hit freezing point (Northumberland, Cumbria, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall). All of Wales will register 0C, except for Powys and Wrexham, where it will range between 1C and 5C. The remainder of England will hover between 2C and 7C reports the Express.

The south coast (Southampton, Brighton), northeast coast (Middlesborough, Scarborough, Hull), and northwest (Liverpool, Blackpool) can expect temperatures between 2C and 3C. East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich) will experience temperatures between 3C and 5C, whilst the Midlands will see 5C. Northern Ireland (Belfast, Derry) will face chillier conditions with temperatures between 1C and 2C.

The Met Office explained for this period: “A greater chance of periods of high pressure bringing more in the way of dry weather, compared to the current weather pattern, which also increases the chances of overnight fog and frost.

“There will most likely however still be periods of rain, showers, and stronger winds, especially in the west. Weather patterns are very uncertain during late November. Overall, near or above average temperatures are most likely though some colder spells are possible, especially should any prolonged settled spells develop.”

This week’s forecast

Today: A soggy and blustery day lies ahead for much of western England and Wales. Clearer conditions elsewhere, though the threat of showers persists. Unusually warm for this time of year.

Wednesday to Friday: Many areas will continue to experience unsettled conditions. Expect frequent cloud cover, with showers or prolonged periods of rain passing through. However, there will be some drier and brighter spells between weather systems. It’s set to be quite breezy, but temperatures will remain mild throughout.
