When a mum chose out a baby name for her little one, she probably didn’t expect her family to have such a negative reaction. Some fear the child will be bullied

A family struggled to conceal their true feelings after hearing what their niece, 26, named her newborn daughter. As she was the first girl to be born into the family in more than a decade, people felt very passionate about picking the correct moniker.

So in a bid to get advice on the awkward matter, the uncle of the family took to Reddit for advice. Explaining the problem, they said: “My, 53, and my wife’s, 49, niece, let’s call her Sarah, had a kid last Monday. The whole family is super excited as the kid is the first girl to be born in over a decade. However, our excitement faded after Sarah, who has been keeping her and her husband’s choice of a name secret, told us their pick yesterday.

“I kid you not, those idiots chose the name Ymburr. It’s f*****g pronounced like ‘Ember’.”

The Redditor added: “My wife and I are horrified but don’t have the heart to tell Sarah and her husband that this kid will be bullied her whole life. Any advice on what to do? Really want to save this kid the tons of humiliation.”

Thankfully, people were quick to offer their advice on the baby name situation.

In response, one commenter said: “Don’t focus on the bullying. It’s incorrect. Having a normal name doesn’t prevent bullying, and having a tragedy is no guarantee of bullying. The real reason to spell it right is a lifetime of frustration, explaining the name, spelling it out, etc.

“It will always look unprofessional and idiotic next to Amber, Ember, Susan, or any other properly-spelled name. Do they really want their child to be and feel like a confusing idiot everywhere she goes?

“Who hires someone with a name like that, to print on business cards, when there’s an equally qualified and pleasant person with a pronounceable, spellable name?”

Another confessed they thought the moniker was a “tragic typo”. They added: “I asked my husband how he would pronounce it without giving him any other info. He said Yum-burr.

“Most people work have no other info when they see this name. Your niece has basically condemned this child to never have her name pronounced correctly the first time someone says it.

“At school: ‘Yumburr?’ ‘It’s Ember’. At the doctor’s: ‘Yumburr?’ ‘It’s Ember’. At the at job interview: ‘Yumburr?’ ‘It’s Ember’.

“Checking in anywhere: ‘Name?’ ‘Ember’. ‘I don’t see that in my system’. ‘It starts with a Y.’ Repeat above scenarios for the next several decades.”

Meanwhile, a third commenter urged the family to intervene by sharing their true thoughts.

They wrote: “Be honest she’s an adult. See if she can just it to the correct spelling, Ember. That way it won’t be a name change just a spelling fix.

“There is no planet where Ymburr is pronounced like ember. I read it as Yimburr lol. Reminds me of the Pokemon, Timburr.”
