EXCLUSIVE: Gavin and Stacey fans rejoice! Robert Wilfort has hinted at a spin-off, teasing the long-debated fishing trip and more of Gwen and Dave’s relationship

Gavin and Stacey fans have been left buzzing after Robert Wilfort, who plays Jason, hinted at the possibility of a spin-off for the beloved BBC comedy.

The actor, who appeared at the National Television Awards, shared his thoughts on what he would love to see explored next, sparking speculation among viewers.

“I was just very pleased to come back at all,” Robert told the Daily Star. “I thought we finished 15 years ago, let alone coming back again.”

The series, which originally aired from 2007 to 2010, became an instant classic, and its 2019 and 2024 Christmas specials only added to its enduring appeal.

Robert admitted that even he wasn’t sure the show would ever return. “As far as I know, it’s done, but I thought we were finished in 2010. But I would be there like a shot. I think we all would,” he said.

While he was joking about some of the fan theories, Robert teased the idea of exploring the infamous ‘fishing trip’ storyline that has long intrigued viewers.

“I think we should do a spin-off of just the fishing trip and find out what really happened,” he laughed. “Oh, that is a joke, though!”

Despite the joke, Robert revealed there were other areas of the show he would love to see developed, particularly the relationship between Gwen and Dave.

“I would actually like to see more of Gwen and Dave’s relationship,” he said. “That would be cool, to see what they get up to. There’s so much potential there.”

While nothing has been officially confirmed by the BBC, Robert’s comments have reignited speculation about the future of the Gavin and Stacey universe.

Whether it’s the comedic antics of Jason, the romance of Gwen and Dave, or finally uncovering the mystery of the fishing trip, fans clearly aren’t ready to let go of their favourite characters just yet.
