BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has opened up about her emotional cancer battle, as she shared a video online of the moment she hit a huge health milestone

Amy Dowden has offered a touching insight into her cancer battle to her Instagram followers, mere days following her second mastectomy procedure.

Just this week, the professional dancer revealed she was undergoing another mastectomy, ruling her out of any remaining Strictly live performances this series. The 35-year-old received her cancer diagnosis in May 2023 after finding a lump in her breast during her honeymoon. Amy regularly updates her supporters about her health journey, and today marked a particularly emotional anniversary.

Through her Instagram stories, Amy posted footage of herself ringing the hospital bell – the symbolic moment marking her cancer-free status, reports the Mirror.

The clip, showing Amy in tears, was captioned simply: “Two years ago today.” On Saturday evening, Amy was showered with messages of love and encouragement as she shared a post-surgery update.

Relaxing at home with a cuppa and surrounded by family, the professional dancer penned: “Home, resting up, still got my drain in but rrrrrready for the best entertainment and medicine there is for me….. @bbcstrictly good luck everyone.”

She continued: “Cheering you all on from home! Lots of luck and love xxxxx.”

Presenter Claudia was amongst the first to respond, posting red heart emojis in support. Joanne Clifton also shared love heart symbols, whilst Karen Carney commented: “Sending so much love.”

A devoted fan replied: “Have a lovely and restful evening.”

One of her followers remarked, “Sending love and healing hugs your way, Amy. The strongest person! ! Hope you have a speedy recovery, gorgeous girl! ! sending so much love,” another chimed in.

Amy had already shared a hospital snap earlier in the week, keeping her supporters informed about her medical journey, the Daily Star previously reported.

She wrote: “Thank you for all the messages and love. Sorry, I’ve not replied to anyone (only just looked at my phone).

“Surgery went well, and lots of sleep and resting up. Hubby and Family have been looking after me, and the besties have turned up with the goods, and nothing is stopping us from watching the Traitors…keeping the tradition going.”

An image uploaded by the star showed Amy in her hospital bed, connected to medical equipment, whilst surrounded by caring relatives.
