Sick parents locked six-year-old in room for her whole life and fed horrifying diet

The poor child was found by police in Brazil after she was allegedly confined to the same room since birth, fed solely on liquids according to authorities

A six-year-old girl, allegedly confined to the same room since birth, has been found by police in Brazil. The child was so severely neglected that she couldn’t speak and was reportedly fed solely on liquids, say officials.

The girl was discovered after police received an anonymous tip-off. She was rescued from her parents’ custody and the pair were subsequently arrested, according to Brazilian news outlet Universo Online.

Officers were dispatched to the property in Sorocaba, Sao Paulo state, for a welfare check. They found the child locked in a dark, grimy room. It’s believed she had spent her entire life in this space. A heart-wrenching photo reveals a stained wall marked by the impression of the girl’s back, alongside a worn-out teddy bear, reports the Express.

The girl hadn’t received any vaccinations and was unable to speak, the police discovered. Child protection counsellor Ligia Guerra commented: “The girl was very apathetic and dazzled by everything.”

She further noted that the girl’s hair was “matted” and appeared as though it had “never been washed”.

Guerra also mentioned that the child hadn’t eaten anything that day. Police later disclosed that she had been brought up on a diet consisting only of liquids.

It’s thought that the girl communicated with counsellors and police officers through unconventional sounds.

Following her rescue from the home, the girl was taken to hospital for a medical check-up before being relocated to a children’s facility. Her parents were apprehended and charged with unlawful detention, and they are currently held in police custody.

Police chief Renata Zanin stated that the mother “cannot grasp the gravity of the situation”. Zanin further noted that the heartless parent “gave evasive answers” during questioning and “showed no remorse whatsoever”.

In a separate incident, a woman, 20, dropped ill while travelling on a bus in Guarapuava, in Brazil’s central region of Paraná on Tuesday evening. According to reports, she was traveling alone from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo. The bus had stopped by a restaurant when the woman began to display respiratory issues.

Medics from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) rushed over to help her as she suffered with shortness of breath. Although it was unclear at first, her symptoms were connected with post-seizure and respiratory distress. Things went from bad to worst when her heart stopped and she suddenly stopped breathing.
