Emmerdale confirmed a surprise death on Tuesday that has rocked some villagers

Emmerdale has confirmed another death that has left Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) completely in shock.

As fans of the ITV soap will know, Robert returned to the village earlier this year after being paroled following a successful appeal.

He had been convicted of murder after killing rapist Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie); however, new evidence proved that Lee could have died of a brain injury caused by his brother.

Upon his release, Robert tried to piece his old life back together and halted Aaron Dingle’s (Danny Miller) doomed wedding to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who is also Robert’s half-brother.

He also confirmed that his time in prison was very difficult and had left a negative impact on his mental state, though he failed to mention that he had married a man called Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill).

Kev has also been released from prison, where he served time for armed robbery, and the pair renewed their vows last week as they settled down in the village.

On Tuesday (November 11), Robert and Kev returned from their honeymoon, and Kev was adamant they should now live together. The decision to move in with Kev left Robert dumbfounded.

Robert is convinced Kev is dying from a terminal heart condition and, upon his death, will rekindle his relationship with Aaron. But he is unaware that Kev’s condition can be managed with medicine, and he isn’t about to die any time soon.

Robert later told Aaron about Kev’s big plans to live together and explained that the situation would soon be resolved, as Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) would never agree to the new living arrangements.

He briefed his sister in advance, and when Kev called round, Victoria made it clear that she had to think about her son Harry and now wasn’t the right time for him to move in.

But surprisingly, Kev wasn’t bothered about Victoria’s comments, as he had some news to deliver to Robert – someone had been murdered in prison.

As the episode closed, Robert told Aaron about the death before confirming he had been keeping a secret.

Aaron had been under the impression that his husband, Robert, was in prison on the Isle of Wight; however, Robert has now confessed he was moved back to Hotten during the pandemic.

The news sparks Robert to reflect on his time behind bars, as a flashback will air on Wednesday (November 12) that details his romantic relationship with Kev.

To find out the full details of the death, Emmerdale is available to watch now on ITVX.

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX
