A murder investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a flat in Hanley. Officers were called to the address after a man was found unresponsive.
The man, who has not yet been named, was confirmed deceased at the scene in Linfield Road at about 9.30pm last night (November 12). A cordon has been put in place and a phone box on nearby Bucknall New Road was wrapped in blue sheeting this morning as part of a forensic examination of the area.
House-to-house inquiries are being carried out as Staffordshire Police are also working to trace the man’s relatives. According to Stoke on Trent Live a 56-year-old man, of Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken into custody for questioning.
A force spokesman said: “We were called to a flat on Linfield Road, Hanley, at about 9.30pm last night following a report made to colleagues by West Midlands Ambulance Service to say a man was unresponsive inside the address. Paramedics attended and found a man unresponsive inside. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We’re working hard to track down the man’s family so that specialist officers can support them at this difficult time. For this reason, we’d urge people not to speculate over the man’s identity so we can properly support his family at these initial stages.
“A cordon has been put in place at the flat and officers are carrying out a number of enquiries to find out more about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including a forensic examination of the area and house to house enquiries this morning
“We’re keen to speak to anyone with any information that can help us with our enquiries.”
