Fans of Strictly Come Dancing have seen a plethora of well-known faces take to the dance floor in hopes of raising the infamous Glitterball trophy over the years

Since its debut in 2004, Strictly Come Dancing has welcomed a parade of celebrities from all walks of life – actors, comedians, singers and sporting legends – to grace the BBC’s dance floor.

This year’s contest is heating up as the famous faces battle to secure their place in the coveted Blackpool Week. Yet one star has narrowly missed out on reaching this significant milestone.

Looking back on his stint on the cherished programme, Phil Tufnell admitted he had serious reservations about participating initially.

During Sunday’s instalment of Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, the 59-year-old cricket legend joined Queen’s Brian May and actress Denise Black as guests.

Alan observed: “You’re all musical! I mean, Brian is obviously musical, we saw you on Strictly!”

Phil admitted: “Yeah, that was terrifying though, it was terrifying, in front of 15 million people, live in a pink top slashed to the navel!

“I knew I was in trouble when my dance partner, Katya (Virshilas), said to me, ‘Dancing with you feels like moving furniture’. I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t think I’m going to be very good at this’.

Rivals actress Denise Black disclosed that she’s been approached about joining Strictly, though she informed producers there was a better chance of her winning Crufts, reports Wales Online.

Following a clip of Phil’s Tango performance from his Strictly days, he acknowledged it was his finest moment on the BBC programme, telling the ITV presenter it was ‘great fun’.

He added: “The main reason I did it, actually, was for my wife, Dawn. I didn’t fancy it to start off with. But Dawn said, ‘You’re doing it because all my family, all my aunties and all my uncles want to go and get the tickets’.

“So, I had to go and do it! It was great fun, but I think I went out at the right stage; my time was up.”

Phil took part in Strictly Come Dancing back in 2009 and became the ninth contestant to be voted off. That year, Chris Hollins claimed victory on the BBC programme alongside Ola Jordan.

Presently on Strictly, Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin are leading the leaderboard with an outstanding score of 38.

Hot on their heels is Emmerdale star Lewis Cope who received a score of 37 from the judges. Meanwhile, both Balvinder Sopal and Vicky Pattison find themselves at the foot of the leaderboard, each with a score of 27.

Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh is available to watch on ITVX. Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
