Presented by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, Marks & Spencer’s Beef Wellington is priced at an astonishing £195 which has incensed many Brit shoppers in the run-up to Christmas

Brits are raging at the “insanely” priced M&S Beef Wellington, unveiled by the supermarket giant for Christmas. The festive meal is celebrity chef Tom Kerridge’s and will cost shoppers an eye-boggling £195 for a six-person portion.

Described as “the ultimate Christmas Eve showstopper”, the dish consists of a beef fillet, portobello mushroom and chicken mousse duxelles wrapped in all-butter pastry with a beef and red wine gravy.

Celeb chef Tom, 52 – who has previously raised eyebrows with his £37 fish and chips – said the dish has “an earthy black truffle flavour” and “is worthy of a festive feast to remember”. But Brits have been giving their honest opinions on the price, with some dubbing it “insane” in foul-mouthed rants.

Sharing the meal on Facebook, one incensed shopper wrote: “This is insane. Apart from the fact that I haven’t a clue who Tom Kerridge is, the fact that it uses Portobello mushrooms, has Chicken Mousse Duxelles (whatever the f*** they are?), and a hint of Black Truffles, who in their right mind would pay £195, yes £195 for this…”

In response, another person added: “Am I saying I’d go out and spend £200 of a f****** beef welly? No. But there are people that will.”

Another took to Reddit to add: “I love that it says it’s for Christmas Eve. Over £200 before you even get to Christmas dinner.”

The ludicrous feast appeared to be so expensive it sparked a debate about “exes” on the social media forum Reddit.

One person wrote: “I suppose if you’ve spent nearly £200 on it, it’s well within your perogative to defile it if you so wish?”

To which another replied: “I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that my exs family decided to buy this and f****** cremate it – they go all in on the expensive meat and then cook it to death.”

Speaking about his work with M&S where he launched a kitchen utensils range, Tom Kerridge said in a statement: “I’m absolutely thrilled to launch the collection with M&S and I feel so proud of what the teams and I have created.

“The M&S team have been brilliant to work with, and I’m so excited to see it land just in time for Christmas.”

The Daily Star has contacted M&S for comment on the expensive Beef Wellington.
