EXCLUSIVE: James McAlpine, the 7ft2 student dubbed the ‘Never Ending Tory’, has spoken about his passion for rural affairs. He wants to pair up with former Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson

Britain’s tallest Tory wants to team up with Jeremy Clarkson to campaign for farmers as he reckons they’d be a ‘great force’ together.

James McAlpine, the 7ft2 who has high hopes of one day becoming PM, says he’s passionate about rural affairs and wants to be a ‘voice’ for the farming industry.

He reckons the campaign would step into a top gear if he joined up with the Clarkson’s Farm star, who stands at a not insignificant 6ft5.

The former Top Gear star has been a vocal campaigner for farmers and has been seen at rallies in Westminster over the past year protesting against government policies.

Oxford Brookes business student James, 22, said: “Jeremy Clarkson has been absolutely fantastic. He’s been a real voice of farmers.

“The amount of people he’s encouraged to go into farming is huge.”

He added: “I have always said we would be a great force together. I briefly met him at his pub about a month ago or so.

“He’s a really great guy, really down to earth. He’s got a lot of great ideas.”

He spoke about his ambitions as he criticised the Government’s inheritance tax changes for farmers. The Conservative Party member – dubbed the Never Ending Tory – claimed it was “heartbreaking” what farmers are going through.

He said he hopes the policy will be reverted at next week’s Budget. The Scottish undergraduate described farmers as one of the most important issues facing the country.

The aspiring politicians said: “I want to be as much of a voice as I can for the farmers. I grew up in a farming community in Scotland.

“It certainly wasn’t just, or well thought out at all. ”

Ministers have repeatedly defended the plans to change inheritance tax rules, which come into effect next April. An HM Treasury spokesperson said it was “backing British farms” by investing funds for machinery, sustainable food and action to cut EU export costs.

Farms were previously exempt from inheritance tax. But the changes mean that while the first £1 million is tax free, anything over that will be subjected to a 20% charge.

James recently told the Daily Star that he wants to increase the height of the doors at Parliament and in No10. He said the entrances to the corridors of power will be his biggest political headache if he manages to climb to the top and achieve high office.

And, during a visit to the Daily Star’s HQ in Canary Wharf, east London, he insisted it’s important to “dream big” when it comes to the world of politics.
