Rockers Biffy Clyro have already written a Tartan Army football song for the World Cup and contacted the Scottish FA. The chart-topping trio also paid tribute to their pal Mani from The Stones Roses who passed away, recalling messy times at Leeds and Reading festivals together. Biffy also tease a collab with Villanelle – fronted by Liam Gallagher’s son Gene.
SCOTS rockers Biffy Clyro have already contacted the Scottish FA with an idea for an official World Cup football song.
The Kilmarnock trio, who won Rolling Stone UK’s Live Act gong, were celebrating their nation reaching its first World Cup since 1998.
Frontman Simon Neil told the Daily Star: “We’ve been in touch with the FA man! We wanted a Scottish Band Aid or Live Aid – get everyone to do it.
“I’ve got the lyric for the chorus: ‘the party’s starting because the tartan’s marching’. That’ll be in your head. I want that to stimulate the song.”
Hopefully it will be more rousing than Del Amitri’s ironic Tartan Army anthem Don’t Come Home Too Soon from 1998.
Simon said: “This is a historic moment for Scotland It’s so weird. 90 minutes after the first game, we’ll all have our heads in our hands and it won’t matter anymore. But I see this next six months as truly magical.
“In this day and age, we all find so many reasons to fall out to disagree, surprising that it’s football that’s bringing people together. Lionesses last year, all of England was celebrating. Now Scotland, Ireland just qualified.”
Biffy are in demand at the moment and have been rubbing shoulders with young rockers Villanelle who a fronted by Liam Gallagher’s son Gene.
Simon spilled: “They really love their rock music, it was nice to chat to them and they realise how much they get it so I said I might going to write tune with them.
“Actually my friend is tour manager in Cruz Beckham’s band so I’m waiting to get the updates to hear what that’s like.
“If anyone from a younger generation wants to work, it’s really nice because there’s just so much talent, and we can learn so much from working with someone younger; the same way that they may learn a little something to work with us.”
Biffy were in mourning at the bash after learning that their pal Mani from the Stone Roses had passed away.
Drummer Ben Johnston said: “We with the pleasure of partying with Mani at Reading and Leeds and it wasn’t pretty but we made proper good friends with him that night and then we actually kind of kept in touch and met in Glasgow a couple of times afterwards. Such a lovely man, always had so much time for everybody and it’s a sad side loss.
Simon agreed: “I think you’ll really struggle to find someone and it doesn’t cherish, didn’t cherish Mani what a young man as well.”
The lads were chuffed to win an award though adding: “It’s not necessarily cool to see it, but especially when you’ve been doing it as long as we have, it’s really nice to be acknowledged.
“We played a handful of shows this year so to be acknowledged for those shows is special – they felt special to us.”
