Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has been engaged to his partner Jonathan Myring since 2020

Craig Revel Horwood is head over heels for his fiancé Jonathan Myring, but a heart-wrenching obstacle has kept them from saying their vows.

Strictly’s judge Craig and green-fingered Jonathan first crossed paths back in 2018 during the show’s tour. The romance quickly escalated and by 2020, the couple, who have a 22-year age difference, were engaged while on holiday in Tasmania.

Opening up to OK!, Craig shared: “There’s such comfort in knowing you have somebody that loves you and wants to spend the rest of their life with you. I feel like I have someone who has my back and I’ve got theirs.”

However, their wedding plans hit a snag due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sadly, Craig and Jonathan couldn’t secure a marquee and all potential venues were fully booked, reports the Mirror.

The pair then aimed for a 2022 wedding, but had to postpone it to 2023 due to home renovations. Craig and Jonathan dreamt of a cosy home wedding, with their Stamford property currently under refurbishment.

But last year, Craig announced another delay to their big day. “The wedding has had to go on the back burner again! It’s going to be the longest engagement ever – there’s a date in the diary for 2027,” he told Woman’s Own magazine.

“It’s been a right royal mess, but we’ll get there eventually, and hopefully our house will be renovated by then and the gardens will have grown. We want to get married at the house so it’s important to get all that sorted before we do it.”

The telly favourite also revealed another heart-wrenching reason for not tying the knot. Craig disclosed: “I wanted my mum to be here for it as well. She got cancer 10 years ago and was given the all-clear, but now it’s returned sadly. She’s not really well enough to come over this year, so I’ve said we’ll wait until she’s better.

“I have said that I’ll be going up the aisle on a Zimmer frame, but with Jonathan joining the ambulance service, at least I’ll be looked after! There’s a little bit of method in the madness!”.

Fast forward to 2022, Craig and Jonathan opened up about the “slight disaster” of their engagement. Jonathan told The Steph Show: “I had a beautiful engagement planned in Tasmania and Craig refused to go and sit on the banks of the river to look for platypus. So I had to call him to frantically call him to go.”

Craig responded: “That’s because the last time we waited for platypus, it was four hours and we didn’t see one. So I wasn’t going to sit through that again, was I? All I wanted to do was go back to the hotel and have a bubble bath.

“Well I jumped in the bubble bath and then Jonathan jumped in with me and proposed in the bubble bath with a glass of champagne.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs every weekend on BBC One.
