Comedian Jason Manford has issued a lengthy, heartfelt message to his fans after making the decision to step away from his beloved job after almost a decade
Jason Manford has quit his job following a recent health scare.
The comedian closed his final Absolute Radio Sunday morning slot on 23 November after joining the station back in 2017. While he hasn’t revealed his reasons for stepping down, Jason admitted he’ll miss the job.
This comes after Manford underwent surgery for appendicitis back in August, which the comedian branded “a scary and extremely painful 24 hours”.
The 44-year-old entertainer posted a long farewell message on his Facebook page: “After 8 years of chatting absolute nonsense with no consequence (or “Nonsequence” as Steve insists!), it’s time to hang up the headphones and say goodbye to my Absolute Radio Sunday morning show.”
“Nearly 400 episodes of nonsense, laughter and whatever popped into our heads between the songs. From those early weeks with a revolving cast of comedians to the strange blur of lockdown and since with Steve Edge, it’s meant the world to be part of your Sundays.”
“Over 800,000 of you tuned in every week and somehow made it one of the most listened-to shows on the station. That’s humbling and a real privilege. Thank you. The podcasts should still be around for a while (although not right now for some technical reason), so you can dip back in if you need your weekly nonsense fix.
“Thank you for inviting us into your mornings, your cars, your kitchens and your dog walks. It’s meant more than you’ll ever know. […] You’re welcome, Love always.”
Listeners were absolutely gutted by his decision to leave and one person wrote: “This is devastating news. I mean, I know it only means an hour in the week I now have to fill, but as a north westerner exiled in London it was the best reminder of home I had, every Sunday.”
The comedian faced a health scare in August lead to the cancellation of several shows due to his appendicitis. Jason informed fans that he’d undergone surgery to remove his appendix and shared an update from his hospital bed along with a photo of himself in a hospital gown.
“Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals. Bit of a scary and extremely painful 24 hours but thankful to our NHS and my incredible nurse mum who’s a godsend in a health crisis!”
