Former Red Bulls boss Richard Hopkins believes Formula One fans will never get to see Michael Schumacher again following the seven-times world champion’s skiing accident in 2013

Michael Schumacher’s pal Richard Hopkins has shared a heartbreaking update on the F1 legend, as he revealed who is in his ‘inner circle’. Former Red Bull boss Richard Hopkins believes racing fans will never see Schumacher again following the seven-times world champion’s devastating skiing accident in 2013.

Schumacher was placed in a medically induced coma after narrowly escaping death in the crash, and his condition has been kept tightly under wraps ever since. Hopkins believes this will always remain the case, with Schumacher’s family keen to be left in privacy.

Hopkins has been friends with Schumacher since his racing days, with the two regularly sharing coffee breaks in the paddock. But he says only the German’s closest pals get to visit him now.

“I don’t think we’ll see Michael again,” Hopkins told SPORTbible. I’m slightly uncomfortable talking about his condition because of how secretive, for the right reasons, the family wants to keep it.

“So I can make a remark, have an opinion, but I’m not in that inner circle.

“I’m not Jean Todt, I’m not Ross Brawn, I’m not Gerhard Berger, who visit Michael. I’m a long way from that.”

It is understood Schumacher needs intense medical care, with his wife Corinna believed to be heavily involved in looking after the 56-year-old.

Asked if he had an insight into Schumacher’s condition, Hopkins added: “I haven’t heard anything recently. I understand he has a Finnish doctor, a personal doctor.”

The former Red Bull head of operations added that even if he spoke to Schumacher’s closest pals, they would stay tight-lipped out of “respect” for the legend and his family.

“I can’t say I’m best friends with Jean Todt, or Ross, or Gerhard,” he added.

“I think even if you were Ross Brawn’s best friend, and you asked how well Michael was, and even if you plied Ross with a lot of good red wine, I don’t think he would open up and share.

“I think there is that respect with anybody who goes to visit Michael not to share anything.

“That’s the way the family wants it to be. I think that’s fair and respectful towards the family. Even if I did know, the family would be disappointed if I shared anyway.”

Michael and Corinna are said to spend most of their time in their mansion on the shore of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, although they also stay at a secluded holiday home on the Spanish island of Majorca.
