A humiliating defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, which saw Spurs line up in a defensive shape and still go down 4-1 at their most bitter of rivals, sees Thomas Frank & Co. licking their wounds.

Spurs fans will be calling on Frank to produce a more attacking display at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening, and the choice of attackers will be key. While the likes of Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski remain sidelined, and Brennan Johnson is suspended, Frank still has decisions to make.

Xavi Simons, who did not start against Arsenal, will surely come in against his former club, while Wilson Odobert and Mohammed Kudus are tricky options on the flanks. Lucas Bergvall will be desperate to start after recovering from a concussion.

Richarlison scored a goal-of-the-season contender, from almost 40 yards, against Arsenal in an otherwise fairly anonymous display, which would open the door for Randal Kolo Muani to start.

But Kolo Muani is on loan from PSG this season. Does that complicate matters? No.

Why can Kolo Muani play against parent club PSG?

In the Premier League, a loan player is not allowed to play against his ‘parent’ club. The rule handbook states that “during the period of the temporary transfer… a player shall not play against the transferor club”. That has been the case since 2004.

That is not the case for the Champions League due to UEFA’s competition integrity rules. European football’s governing body has long been clear on its “clear provisions which strictly forbid any club to exert, or attempt to exert, any influence whatsoever over the players that another club may (or may not) field in a match.”

Earlier this season, Nicolas Jackson played for loanee club Bayern Munich against parent club Chelsea.
