Police searching for Brian Wright, 82, in Langford near Newark have found a body in a field days after discovering another body believed to be his son
A second body has been discovered by police in their search for a missing elderly man, as part of an investigation into a suspected murder-suicide.
Nottinghamshire Police initiated a murder inquiry following the disappearance of 82 year old Brian Wright, who was reported missing from his Langford home near Newark, Nottinghamshire, on 20 November. Two days later, on 22 November, the body of a 52 year old man was found in an outbuilding.
The deceased was identified locally yesterday as Charles Wright, Brian’s eldest son, who resided in the neighbouring village of Winthorpe. Although the police are not treating his death as suspicious, they believe it is connected to Brian’s disappearance.
In a recent development, officers located a body in a field on Tuesday. As per Nottinghamshire Live, recovery operations were concluded today.
The force is now investigating the two deaths as a potential murder-suicide and stated that they are not currently seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, reports the Mirror.
This afternoon, Nottinghamshire Police released a statement: “Police searching for missing 82-year-old Brian Wright have today recovered a body. Search teams were deployed to the Langford area on Saturday (22 November) after receiving intelligence that he was deceased.
“The body was discovered on Tuesday in a field near Danethorpe Lane, and recovery work was completed today (Wednesday). While formal identification has yet to take place, Mr Wright’s next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.”
In a shocking twist, this discovery comes just four days after the body of a 52 year old man was found in an outbuilding off the A1133 in Langford. The deceased is believed to be Charles Wright, the son of Mr Wright, although formal identification is still pending.
Authorities are treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide and are not seeking any other individuals in relation to these deaths or a separate incident where two men were hit by a car on Gainsborough Road, Winthorpe, shortly after 10am on Saturday.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow commented: “This is clearly a deeply tragic case, and we are continuing to support family members at this extremely difficult time. We again ask the media and public to respect their privacy as they come to terms with recent events.”
She added her gratitude, saying: “I would like to thank everyone who shared our appeals to locate Brian since he went missing, as well as our search teams for their professionalism and dedication over the last few days. A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be carried out in due course and a file prepared for the coroner.”
A lifelong mate of Brian Wright revealed to Nottinghamshire Live that he had three sons, including the eldest, Charles. A local resident remarked: “I knew of Brian but I didn’t really know him. We always see [another son] running through the village.”
The elderly gent resided in the quaint village of Langford, near Newark, on a farm previously managed by his father, also named Charles Wright. He shared his home with his wife Judith, and their middle son continued to reside at the family farm, known as Hall Farm, alongside his parents.
Mr Wright had long held the position of a churchwarden at St Bartholomew’s Church in Langford and also served on Winthorpe with Langford Parish Council.
