EastEnders star Shona McGarty became emotional on tonight’s I’m A Celebrity as she shared a tearful confession.

Emotions were at an all-time high on tonight’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as football legend Alex Scott was voted off. The first celebrity to leave the ITV jungle, her departure seemed to have a profound impact on some campmates.

Following Alex’s farewell, her co-stars cheered her on as she crossed the bridge before returning to camp. It was then that Shona McGarty became visibly upset, holding back tears as she expressed how much Alex’s exit had affected her.

In the Bush Telegraph, she shared: “Alex has just been so strong all the way through and she’s kept me going without probably even realising it.

“I’m gutted that she’s gone, to be honest,” she confessed, “But camp life has to carry on.”

Before the public vote result was revealed, Alex admitted to having “mixed emotions” about potentially being the first to leave.

She mused: “If it’s me, then it’s meant to be, it’s my time and I get to go and embrace my loved ones.

“I don’t want it to be over, but if it is, then hey I’ve had the best time ever.”

At risk of elimination alongside six other campmates, Alex seemed in high spirits as she crossed the bridge to greet Ant and Dec.

“It doesn’t feel real, you just live in that moment with the campmates,” she reflected, adding: “It’s been such an incredible experience.

“Mentally, I did struggle missing home, but I’m so glad I got to do this series with such a great bunch of campmates.

“It’s tough in there – constantly going to get water and firewood,” she confessed, before surprisingly revealing that she had a fantastic time in the jungle.

Alex also touched on her close relationship with Shona during their stint in camp, attributing their “quiet personalities” as the reason they naturally gravitated towards each other.

When quizzed about her preferred winner of the competition, she disclosed: “Shona. I think Ginge and Aitch are great – amazing to see them in the final – but to see Shona being made Queen of the Jungle would change her and give her the confidence to be brilliant at life.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will continue tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
