One Strictly Come Dancing professional has got an exciting few weeks

A Strictly Come Dancing star has secured a fresh role beyond the BBC programme.

With Christmas drawing near, pantomime season is back and one Strictly professional dancer is trading the ballroom for the theatre in a production of Aladdin.

Neil Jones, who has featured on Strictly since 2016, will participate in a star-filled production of Aladdin at Middleton Arena, where he portrays Abanazar.

However, Neil, 43, will only take on the character from 21 December onwards, presumably due to Strictly obligations, with Callum Arnott appearing in shows until 20 December. The pantomime runs until Monday 29 December 2025.

Also joining the cast are performers such as CBBC’s Chris Johnson as Billy, EastEnders’ Ricky Groves as The King, Tom Sentia as Aladdin, Craig Colley as Dame Betty, Ruby Millard as The Princess and Lucy Samuels as The Spirit of the Ring, reports Wales Online.

A synopsis reveals: “Audiences will join Aladdin, his mother, Betty, and his brother, Billy, as they try to defeat the wicked Abanazar and his plan to become the Master of the World.

“With help from the Genie of the Lamp and the Spirit of the Ring, Aladdin sets out to save the day and win the heart of the princess.

“Packed with special effects, colourful costumes, lively songs and laugh-out-loud moments, the production promises to be a showstopper for all ages.”

Neil is also set to join the cast of Celebrity Escape to the Country, as announced by the BBC. The popular show will feature a host of celebrities looking to trade their city dwellings for a taste of rural life.

The line-up for this series includes journalist and television presenter Janet Street Porter, choirmaster and broadcaster Gareth Malone, and singer-actor Chesney Hawkes.

They’ll be joined by former footballer and TV personality Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, broadcaster and presenter Angellica Bell, and Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Neil.

With the help of Escape’s experienced hosts, the celebrities will embark on an exciting journey into the wilderness, exploring locations ranging from the ancient woodlands of the New Forest to the wild moorlands of Yorkshire and beyond.

These new hour-long specials will once again follow our celebrities as they step out of their urban comfort zones in search of the ideal countryside retreat.

Along their journey, they’ll experience the joys and realities of rural living, from breathtaking landscapes and charming homes to the unique communities that make Britain’s countryside so special.
