Geoffrey Baulcomb, a former vicar, has been jailed for three years after he chopped off a man’s penis with nail scissors. He was an ‘acquaintance’ of Marius ‘Theo’ Gustavson, the ‘Eunuch Maker’

A former clergyman caught up in a shocking castration network has today been jailed for three years, as the mastermind behind the network dubbed the ‘Eunuch Maler’ has come back into the spotlight.

In June, ex-vicar Geoffrey Baulcomb, from Eastbourne, East Sussex, stood before the Old Bailey, where he admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a procedure he carried out on a man’s penis using nail scissors.

Ex-reverend Baulcomb, who had previously delivered sermons at Eastbourne’s St Mary the Virgin church, had earlier confessed to seven charges, including possessing extreme pornography and creating and distributing indecent images of children on or before December 14, 2022.

The disturbing nail scissors procedure, which took place in January 2020, was filmed with a nine-second recording found on Baulcomb’s mobile phone, according to Sky News.

Shockingly, this episode was merely scratching the surface. Baulcomb, who remained ordained whilst committing these offences, had been an ‘associate’ of Marius ‘Theo’ Gustavson – more commonly known as the ‘Eunuch Maker’, reports the Mirror.

Across a four-year period, Baulcomb and Gustavson shared over 10,000 messages.

Meanwhile, the Mail Online reveals that 182 “grossly offensive, disgusting” and “obscene” images in Baulcomb’s possession, described as “portraying in an explicit and realistic way an act which resulted or was likely to result in serious injury to a person’s anus, breasts or genitals”, were linked to Gustavson’s vile website. This horrific location witnessed Gustavson, who hails from Norway, broadcasting the severe mutilation of defenceless clients for the sexual pleasure of paying viewers.

During his own sentencing hearing in May 2024, Gustavson received a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years. The presiding judge characterised his crimes as “little short of human butchery”.

Gustavson, who had undergone removal of his right nipple and left leg, preserved his own penis in a drawer for four years following its amputation. He also exhibited his two severed testicles, which were displayed in a picture frame mounted above his bed.

It’s believed that Gustavson has been diagnosed with Body Integrity Dysphoria (BID), a condition where individuals experience a compulsion to remove healthy limbs or body parts that feel incorrect or “overcomplete” to them.

Documentary maker Marcel Theroux, Louis Theroux’s brother, previously discussed with The Mirror his encounter with Gustavson during filming for his documentary, The Eunuch Maker.

Reflecting on his astonishment, Marcel revealed: “By then it was clear that the things he’d done were unspeakable and horrific. When I went to see him, I was expecting a monster, but he came across as rather charming and quiet.

“When you meet him, he presents as thoughtful and engaging. It’s part of the power that he had over people. He’s able to talk about really outlandish things in a way that, for a moment, seems to normalise them.

“That’s a very seductive and dangerous power to have with vulnerable people. A lot of them were struggling and were quite ashamed, and if you meet someone who says, ‘You’ve nothing to be ashamed of, I can fix this’, that was his power. In the hour I spent with him, I found him affable.”

Profitable business in ‘human butchery’

Gustavson conducted the horrific operations in his basement flat in Harringay, North London, where a sign read ‘Theo’s playroom, open 24 hours, seven days’. His thriving and profitable enterprise ran between 2017 and 2021.

In a makeshift chamber of horrors, Gustavson would amputate men’s penises and testicles using a kitchen knife and would even remove entire limbs.

These unhygienic procedures were recorded, and no fee was charged if the world was permitted to view. It’s believed that conducting these barbaric operations netted Gustavson £300,000, with daily clients arriving from across the globe.

Speaking to The Guardian last year under conditions of anonymity, a former acquaintance of Gustavson revealed how the self-proclaimed ‘Eunuch Maker’ would flog the body parts he’d severed.

Recounting witnessing Gustavson retrieve a jar from a fridge positioned behind the sofa of his two-bedroom property, the acquaintance recalled: “My partner and I were there when a sale went down. We asked and he said: ‘Oh yes, this is someone’s penis, [it belongs to] this nice little twentysomething from Belgium.’

“In that fridge, there were testicles and chopped-off penises pickled in a jar and kept cold, and people would turn up to buy them.”

The report also reveals that Gustavson lured new subscribers, amassing a total of 22,841, with discounted membership deals. He advertised £35 annual memberships during New Year’s and Thanksgiving, along with a £100 VIP membership option.

Gustavson was finally apprehended in November 2022 after he used an iron to brand a man’s calf with the letters EM – standing for Eunuch Maker. It subsequently came to light that Gustavson had performed at least 29 procedures on 13 victims, including a woman who had her breasts removed.

He even auctioned body parts online, complete with a ‘buy it now’ button.

Gustavson admitted guilt to several charges, including conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, creating and distributing indecent images of a child, and possession of extreme pornography.

Testicle salad and penis tasting

During Gustavson’s three-day sentencing hearing, prosecutor Caroline Carberry KC informed the court of “clear evidence” of cannibalism.

On one occasion, Gustavson prepared a meal using a pair of severed testicles, which he cooked with roasted potatoes, cashews, and pistachios, consuming this “artfully arranged salad platter” for lunch.

In another video, Gustavson is seen “tasting” a severed penis. Upon searching Gustavson’s residence, police officers discovered additional testicles and other body parts stored in a chest freezer, packed away in plastic bags and takeaway containers.

‘Cult-like’ mutilation network

According to Mail Online, Gustavson enlisted several accomplices to aid him in his horrific activities, including his ‘right-hand man’, former chemist Peter Wates, and veterinary student Janus Atkin.

David Carruthers, a 61-year-old former hospital porter, participated in six operations, including four castrations, whilst his partner, Ashley Williams, was also implicated in the network.

Gustavson’s own partner, Jacob Crimi-Appleby, had his leg frozen off in February 2019, necessitating amputation. Male escort Damien Byrnes severed Gustavson’s penis using a kitchen knife in February 2017, whilst nurse Nathan Arnold, 48, was handed a two-year suspended sentence for partially removing Gustavson’s nipple with a scalpel in 2019.

Additional participants included Romanian-born Ion Ciucur and German Stefan Scharf. In total, 10 men have been charged in connection with their involvement in the mutilation gang spanning more than four years.

During his hearing, prosecutor Caroline Carberry KC branded Gustavson an “arch-manipulator”, stating: “All of them consented to the procedures but all were themselves vulnerable to exploitation by him.”

She continued: “The Crown suggest that all of the defendants were to a greater or lesser extent motivated by the sexual element of the offending and financial gain.”

One victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke of how Gustavson created a “cult-like atmosphere” around him, which they described as “captivating and mesmerising”. They noted that, “his veneer of respectability was a masterstroke”.
