Charlie Kirk suspect ‘may not have acted alone’ as cops investigate ‘man on phone’

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the shooting of right-wing mouthpiece Charlie Kirk, and now cops are investigating whether the suspect may have had an accomplice

Police investigating the shooting of Charlie Kirk say his suspected killer may have had an accomplice. The right-wing activist and commentator, 31, was shot on Wednesday (September 10) as he addressed students at Utah Valley University.

Tyler Robinson, 22, has now been arrested in connection with the assassination. FBI agents are understood to be examining doorbell camera footage which allegedly shows Robinson talking on the phone about the assassination, just moments after it took place.

Detectives now fear Robinson, 22, may have had help from someone else – or that someone may have known about the assassination and not spoken up. Cops interviewed a family on Thursday (September 11) who live near the university campus and handed over the footage now being examined, The Sun reports.

The outlet reported the tape shows a man walking past the family’s home and discussing the shooting on the phone.

It is understood police are now investigating whether the man in the footage is Robinson.

It comes after Robinson’s dad, Matt, recognised the suspect in photos released by the FBI the day before and reported his findings to the police.

Matt is understood to have confronted his son, who allegedly admitted the attack to his father but said: “I would rather kill myself than turn myself in.”

The dad allegedly convinced his son to speak to a youth minister, who also serves as a task force officer with the US Marshals Service, who then called the FBI.

The Daily Star previously revealed the bullets used in the assassination of Mr Kirk were inscribed with messages such as: “Hey fascist! Catch!”

Speaking at a press conference on the murder, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said: “We got him” before sharing further details on the case.

This included reading out the inscriptions, another of which read: “If you read this you are gay lmao [laugh my a** off].”

Another cryptic message on a bullet read: “Notices, bulges, Owo what’s this?”

A fourth featured lyrics from the Italian song Bella Ciao, which was adapted by anti-fascists fighting the Nazis and Italian Fascist forces in the 1940s.

Mr Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, broke her silence on her husband’s death as she stood by an empty chair left in his studio and addressed fans last night (September 12).

“Charlie, I promise I will never let your legacy die, baby,” she said. “I promise I’ll make Turning Point USA the biggest thing that this nation has ever seen.”

Turning Point USA, founded by Mr Kirk and his late mentor, Bill Montgomery, in 2012, is a non-profit organisation which advocates for the teaching and promotion of conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses.

The organisation’s mission is “to identify, educate, train, and organise students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government.”
