A number of Delta Airlines employees have been suspended over their response to the assassination of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot earlier this week
Several Delta Airlines employees ave been suspended after appearing to celebrate Charlie Kirk’s death. The person have been temporarily removed from their post pending an investigation by the company.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, 31, was gunned down in a targeted attack at Utah Valley University on Wednesday (September 10). Since then, police have detained 22-year-old suspect Tyler Robinson while investigations remain ongoing in relation to the assassination.
Following his death, reaction to the shooting has been divided, with many grieving the right-wing activist’s death. Among those offering their condolences is Donald Trump, who confirmed he would bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Mr Kirk posthumously.
However, it appears not everyone was upset to hear the news of Mr Kirk’s death, with some critics going as far as to celebrate his passing on social media. It appears multiple Delta Airlines employees were removed from their posts over comments made online following the assassination.
In an email being sent internally to employees, Delta Airlines confirmed that one of its workers had been suspended, pending an investigation.
“This week, we were made aware of Delta employees whose social media content, related to the recent murder of activist Charlie Kirk, went well beyond healthy, respectful debate,” the airline wrote. “These social posts stand in stark contrast to our values and out social media policy, and these employees have been suspended pending an investigation.”
The company added: “Whether we’re in uniform and on the clock, online or out in public, our colleagues, customers and communities expect us to reflect Delta’s values. Integrity, care and servant leadership — [all of which] that we hold dear.”
The moves come following Robinson’s arrest in connection with the controversial commentator’s murder.
Neighbours added that Robinson was “very nice” and “carried himself nicely”. He is understood to have had a full scholarship to go to university.
Police investigating the shooting of Charlie Kirk say his suspected killer may have had an accomplice.
FBI agents are understood to be examining doorbell camera footage which allegedly shows Robinson talking on the phone about the assassination, just moments after it took place.
Meanwhile, Mr Kirk’s widow Erika broke down in tears as she broke her silence for the first time since Charlie was gunned down.
Wiping away tears, she vowed to carry on his work, saying: “Charlie, I promise I will never let your legacy die, baby; I promise I’ll make Turning Point USA the biggest thing that this nation has ever seen.”
