Arsenal have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old winger Archie Stevens after a successful trial stint.

The Gunners were extremely busy during the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta received huge backing in his bid to win a Premier League title with a blend of experience and youth in a total spend of approximately £255million. Eight new faces arrived at the Emirates Stadium including star striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Piero Hincapie and Kepa Arrizabalaga also joined the ranks. Sporting director Andrea Berta’s efforts in his debut window are already showing promising returns, with Arsenal securing victory in three of their opening four matches.

While the transfer window has now shut until January, the Gunners have still announced a fresh addition. Stevens has earned his move after catching the eye for the Under-21s against Chelmsford United and Monaco II during pre-season.

The wide man will link up with Max Porter’s Under-21s squad in Premier League 2 following his impressive summer displays. Stevens progressed through Rangers’ youth system before spending the latter half of last campaign with Scottish Championship outfit Dunfermline Athletic, reports Football London.

Academy manager Per Mertesacker said: “Since Archie has been with us, he has really impressed as a person and player. He has fit into our environment seamlessly and has been really impressive in matches and in training.

“Archie has absolutely earned this next stage in his career with his professional contract with us. We welcome Archie to our academy and are all looking forward to working with him in his continued development.”

Stevens found the net in the 2-0 victory against Monaco II over the summer following a relegation battle last term in Scotland. He said: “My first game was against Chelmsford in pre-season, I think I gave a good account of myself.

“Then we had the Monaco game out in France, which was a great opportunity. I came on in the last 30 minutes, so I wanted to make an impact.

“I saw the ball come to me in quite a wide area, but I thought I need to get something away, whether it’s a shot or a pass and I went for goal.”

The Under-21s have gathered four points in Premier League 2 this campaign. Their next fixture sees them face Wolves this Saturday before a clash with League Two outfit Newport County in the EFL Trophy.
