The EES will be rolled out from October and will mean that anyone travelling to the EU from the UK will need to provide biometric data at the border and answer more questions

The clock is ticking towards the launch of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) at European borders. From October 12, travellers from outside the EU will be required to provide fingerprints and undergo facial scanning when entering the EU.

Travel specialists are warning that this development could result in significant hold-ups at airports for international journeys. It’s crucial that anyone with upcoming trips is ready for this change.

Yet, a government survey reveals that over two-thirds of British holidaymakers remain oblivious to these alterations, reports the Express.

Yasmin Pekel, a travel specialist at motor yacht firm Blue Cruise, describes the October half-term period as a “ticking clock”.

She explained: “If airports and ports aren’t fully prepared, and people don’t know what’s expected of them, you’ve got a perfect storm of long queues, confusion, and families missing departures.

“Awareness is everything right now.”

One of the most effective ways to get ready for this shift is forward planning.

Whilst airports typically suggest arriving two to three hours before departure, Yasmin recommends tacking on an additional hour due to these fresh requirements.

The EES will also entail additional queries, so keep your travel details at the ready(Image: Getty)

This extra time will account for extended queues and potential bewilderment as border personnel and travellers adapt to the modifications; ensure your passport is easily accessible and adhere to all guidelines for biometric screening.

The EES will also entail additional queries, so keep your travel details at the ready.

Border officials may inquire about your journey, lodging, or the duration of your stay.

Providing clear, concise responses will aid in expediting the process.

Yasmin stated: “The EES is a fundamental change to how we enter the EU. If people take it seriously and prepare, they’ll get through it fine.

“But if they treat it like the old system, the risk of starting your holiday in chaos is very real.”
