Married at First Sight UK star Keye Luke was left in tears as he opened up about the death of his brother

Married at First Sight UK groom Keye Luke revealed a heartbreaking family death as he admitted “it’s really hard”.

The tenth series of the popular reality show kicked off over the weekend, featuring a fresh batch of brides and grooms who were ready to marry complete strangers.

Among the hopeful singles placing their trust in the experts was Keye, a 33-year-old marketing manager from London.

The participant disclosed that he previously got married to an older gentleman in his early twenties, though the union collapsed when they “grew apart.” Keye’s former husband also cheated, leaving him feeling “isolated and alone.”

During his introductory segment, Keye spoke candidly about losing his brother, who passed away at just nine years old, reports MyLondon.

Following a successful wedding to his new husband, Davide Anica, Keye was thrilled to jet off to South Africa for their honeymoon. However, Davide soon became irritated by Keye’s innuendos and quips.

When they settled down for their dinner, Keye revealed that he relies on comedy as a defence mechanism, stemming from childhood trauma.

“I’m going to try not to make inappropriate jokes or to deflect. My mum comes from a military background, we’re a military family and that’s kind of how we deal with our trauma. We make jokes and make [it] light-hearted because it’s better to make people laugh,” he explained.

“My brother was disabled; he had cerebral palsy. So, when he was born, he was only meant to live until he was one. Thankfully, he lived until he was nine, just turning ten.

“Obviously, it was a lot to deal with, and it was the same time as my parents were getting divorced as well. So, we were losing our family home and having to move.

“So, I guess the reason why, in so many situations, I deflect [is] because it was a coping mechanism that I always had to get me through a really difficult period where we obviously lost my brother and the family as we knew it.”

An emotional Keye went on: “It’s really hard for me to open up and be vulnerable because my natural instinct is to make light and make a joke to make people smile and to make people laugh, because sometimes that is easier. I’m trying.”

Davide expressed how “proud” he felt of his new spouse for finding the courage to share his personal battles with him.

“I knew there was something more there, but he just needed time to feel comfortable to open up to me. It’s definitely deepened our emotional connection together. I already liked him, I even like him more now,” he revealed.

In contrast to other pairs, Keye and Davide appear to be flourishing together. Can their bond stand the test of time?
