Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho looks set to be offered a new contract at the end of the season despite his long struggles to live up to his hefty £73m price tag
Jadon Sancho is set for a Manchester United exit next summer when his contract expires at Old Trafford.
Sancho, 25, is currently on loan at Aston Villa – but he’s failed to impress after his summer move to the Midlands, only playing eight minutes so far – as a substitute in the 1-1 draw away at Sunderland. However, according to SportsBoom, Sancho is viewed as a longterm asset for Villa and the club are preparing to offer him a contract.
Villa are already covering most of his £200,000-per-week wages after his Transfer Deadline Day move. Sancho was joined by Harvey Elliott, who joined from Liverpool before the window slammed shut, but unlike Sancho, Elliott has an obligation to buy.
Sancho joined United in a high-profile £73million deal from German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in July 2021.
But after a promising couple of seasons at Old Trafford, in which he was a regular first-team starter, Sancho dropped spectacularly down the pecking order.
He fell out with former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and was loaned back to Dortmund in the third year of his five-year deal.
Having been told he had no future at United, Sancho jumped at the chance to play for Chelsea last season and toasted sweet by winning the UEFA Conference League with the club.
He played 31 Premier League games for the Blues last campaign and chipped in with five goals, but Chelsea were forced to pay a £5million penalty for not opting to sign the winger on a permanent basis.
Sancho couldn’t find a way back into the starting side under Ruben Amorim, and was again shipped out on loan.
However, Sancho has yet to start a Premier League game for the club and has been selected from the outset just once, starting in a 1-1 EFL Cup draw away to Brentford last week.
It has been a tough start to the season for Villa – and they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways on Thursday against Bologna in the Europa League.
