Simon Cowell has spoken out after a video of him clapping in an ‘awkward’ manner went viral following his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show earlier this week

Simon Cowell’s bizarre clapping technique has sent the internet into a frenzy after his latest stint on The Jennifer Hudson Show. The X Factor and America’s Got Talent supremo, 65, has left audiences scratching their heads following footage of his distinctive applauding method.

The entertainment tycoon became the most recent star to swagger through host Jennifer’s celebrated ‘spirit tunnel’, where Simon received a warm welcome from production staff as he entered the studio. Other famous faces, including Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, have previously become internet sensations for their ‘spirit tunnel’ walks.

Simon appeared delighted and upbeat during his grand entrance, though many observers have highlighted his “uncomfortable” hand-clapping technique.

Simon sported his trademark outfit of a black T-shirt, loose-fitting blue denim, and dark footwear, according to the Mirror. Discussing the ‘spirit tunnel’ experience, Simon admitted: “I absolutely loved that. When they told me about it, it is seriously the best way of coming onto a show, seriously do you mind if I steal it for America’s Got Talent.”

During the programme, the television personality also disclosed that he’s considerably more reserved than the public might expect. He explained: “I am very shy. I can’t go to a pre-party – it’s my worst thing in the world making small talk with people I don’t know,” reports OK!.

“If we have a common subject, I’m pretty good, but years ago if I had to go to a party, particularly if we had to stand up with a drink, with ­horrible food, and just talk to people you don’t know – it’s torture.”

Following his studio entrance, viewers flocked to social media to voice their reactions, with numerous comments focusing on his peculiar clapping style. One posted: “Why is Simon CLAPPING like that? ! ! I love this man.

“Simon Cowell is and always will be an enigma to me. The clapping, the awkward walk, the lack of any ounce of rhythm. A strange man indeed but what a man,” another viewer remarked. Someone else joked: “Why does Simon Cowell clap like he has baby T-Rex arms?”.

“Is this his first time clapping? Why is he clapping like that?” another viewer pondered.

Nevertheless, some viewers jumped to Simon’s defence, reminding others that the Britain’s Got Talent judge endured a devastating accident when his e-bike crashed in August 2020. Simon fractured his back during the incident and required six hours of surgery to have a metal rod inserted into his spine.

The crash also caused further injuries, including a fractured arm and concussion.

Highlighting Simon’s terrible crash and the lengthy recovery period that ensued, one supporter argued: “For everyone questioning his stature, he was in a horrible accident that left his back a mess. To see him walking and moving around semi normally is awesome.”

Another person commented: “It’s so weird seeing him walk he’s usually behind the judges table lol.”
