Despite the jaw-dropping scenery, slow single carriageways on the A82 to Loch Lomond in Scotland and the A470 to Snowdonia in Wales were named as torturous trips to make with youngsters

The worst UK road trips to try with kids have been unveiled – with the M25 coming out on top. Nearly a third of parents raged that the motorway around Greater London was the most hellish due to endless traffic jams and miles of queues.

Almost one in five said the M5 from Birmingham to Devon and the A30 into Cornwall were the worst with nippers in the back because of summer holiday tailbacks.

Other journeys to feature in the list were The M1 around Milton Keynes and Luton, the M6 to the Lake District and the M62 across the Pennines with parents moaning about roadworks and monster winds.

Ashley Andrew, of Hyundai Motor & Genesis UK, which carried out the poll, said: “At Hyundai, we want to make all journeys easier and calmer for everyone.

“The KONA Electric, with its whisper-quiet powertrain and smooth driving experience, is the perfect partner – whether it’s the school run, nap-time laps or a cross-country adventure. Through our new ‘Rest Drives’ initiative, parents can experience its calming, family-friendly benefits first-hand.”

And it’s not just the motorways driving families round the bend with the A1 through Cambridgeshire and North Yorkshire and the M20 to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel also named as raging road trips.

Despite the jaw-dropping scenery, slow single carriageways on the A82 to Loch Lomond in Scotland and the A470 to Snowdonia in Wales were named as torturous trips to make with youngsters.

And Brits with children under ten said sitting in traffic, engine noise and frequent petrol stops topped the list of frustrations when trying to get their little one to nod off.

They also whined about the dilemma of whether to wake a sleeping kid just to pay for fuel and the drain of spending hours behind the wheel.

Despite the challenges, 43% claimed road trips are still fun while over a third treasure fond childhood memories of journeys with their families. And 11% confessed the only truly peaceful journeys are the ones when their offspring are asleep.
