The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was just 42 when he was found dead at his lavish Graceland estate in Memphis in 1977 and widow Priscilla says his ghost has returned to the building

Priscilla Presley has claimed that the ghost of Elvis is haunting Graceland. The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was just 42 when he was found dead at his lavish Memphis estate in 1977.

Priscilla, 80, revealed: “Elvis lives on at Graceland. The staff and neighbours know it. I know it. We feel his spirit there. Every time I walk in that door, I think, Oh my God. He’s here. I can feel him, feel his presence. It’s both haunting and comforting.

“I tell people before they go in, ‘You’ll feel his spirit there.’ Most of them do. I know that whenever I miss him, I can still go home to Graceland, and he’ll be waiting for me.”

In her new memoir Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, Priscilla said it was not her only run-in with ghosts. She also encountered a spook at their daughter Lisa Marie’s country pile in Kent in England on a visit with her son Navarone.

Priscilla said: “Just as I was about to drift off to sleep, I heard somebody turning the knob on my door. Thinking it was Navarone, I got out of bed and opened the door, expecting to see my son.

“I caught a glimpse of something, but it was so fast that I couldn’t identify it. It wasn’t Navarone. It wasn’t anyone. The doorway was empty. I felt chills go down my spine. I slept very little that night.

“The next morning, when I joined the others, they said, ‘So how was it?’ I told them what had happened. Then Lisa said, ‘Yeah, that’s the ghost room. It’s haunted. We didn’t want to tell you. We wanted to see if anything happened.’

“Thanks a lot, guys. I get the ghost room? Very funny.”

Priscilla said the spectre was “an old-fashioned figure” who regular makes an appearance.

She added: “A friend of Lisa’s who was staying with us told me that she had seen something coming down the stairs. None of us knew what to think about it, but it was eerie.”
