The great stride forward continues apace with Leapmotor, the Chinese car-maker that’s bringing its electric cars to the UK in partnership with European car-giant Stellantis.

It has just unveiled its next new model, the B05 hatchback, which goes on sale next year and which I saw make its debut at the recent Munich motor show.

Riding on 19in wheels, the rear-wheel drive Vauxhall Astra-sized B05 is a sibling of the closely related B10 crossover EV, which arrives earlier – going on sale this winter.

Available only in one high spec model, B05 prices will be ‘very competitive’, so something slightly north of £30,000. Expect 0 to 62mph acceleration in around eight seconds and a top speed of about 105mph.

Leapmotor has already launched the T03 city car (from £14,495) and C10 SUV (from £36,500) but is also offering its own EV grant of up to £3,750 on both vehicles.
