Coronation Street’s Jenny star Sally Ann Matthews left the ITV cobbles this week nearly 40 years since her debut

Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews has jokingly called out her former co-star’s “terrible” behaviour on the set.

Sally shot to fame when she joined the ITV soap aged just 16 back in 1986 as Jenny Bradley. She portrayed Jenny until 1991 and made a brief comeback in 1993, before returning full-time in 2015.

This year though, it was announced that Sally had quit the programme, nearly 40 years since she first walked onto the cobbles. In an emotional Instagram post, the actress said: “I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much!

“It’s time, though, to play those parts I always hoped I would when I’d grown up.’ Thanks Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter.”

And over on the soap this week, Sally’s exit scenes aired, with Jenny saying her goodbye for a new life abroad in Spain after a dramatic few months in Weatherfield.

And now, speaking to Conversation Street, Sally has opened up about life on the cobbles set, and gushed over her time working with Jodie Prenger who plays barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth.

However, it seems some of Jodie’s behaviour didn’t go down too well with Sally, who jokingly revealed why Jodie is “terrible” to work with.

Talking about Jenny working in the Rovers, Sally admitted that becoming a landlady of the iconic pub was “not on my radar”.

Fans will recall that Jenny took ownership of the Rovers in 2018, and remained there until earlier this year, when she was forced out. While working at the pub, Jenny had several staff working for her, including Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Glenda.

Talking about Glenda actress Jodie, Sally said: “We had a great time! She fitted in perfectly, she’s great fun.” Sally then jokingly called out Jodie for her “terrible” behaviour. She said: “She is terrible though, because she always brings in sweets!”

Sally also addressed her “low-key” exit and explained: “I know people have said, because I’ve seen it already today on Twitter, people going: ‘Oh she should have had a bigger exit.'”

However, Sally insisted: “I loved Jenny’s exit”, adding that she wanted it to be ‘low-key’, she continued: “Yeah, yeah, completely. And it’s also, they don’t do exit stories anymore, unless you’re going to die.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
