Neither side comes into the match on particularly convincing form. The Blues arrested a concerning run of one win in five this week, beating Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League thanks to Richard Rios’ own goal.
After the club invested heavily in his squad over the summer, Arne Slot is under pressure to get the Premier League champions back on song, with the side not quite clicking so far this season.
In spite of their wobble, Liverpool remain atop the Premier League, but could be knocked off the summit should they lose this weekend.

Chelsea vs Liverpool team news
Chelsea managed to come through the Benfica clash with no new injuries, but the squad’s fitness is precarious at best.
They are already without talisman Cole Palmer, with defenders Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo also ruled out until after the international break. They join long-term absentees Dario Essugo and Liam Delap on the physio’s table.
The latest injury developments at the club, though, surround Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro, and Andrey Santos, as all three were named as doubts ahead of facing Benfica.
Caicedo and Pedro were both involved in the match, but the latter has since been excluded from Brazil’s squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, suggesting he is not at 100%. Santos also missed out on a call-up to the Selecao, and will remain sidelined for a few weeks.
Pedro was sent off against Benfica, but his suspension will only apply to UEFA matches and he is available to face Liverpool.

Trevoh Chalobah is suspended for the tie, having been sent off against Brighton last time out, opening the door for Josh Acheampong to slot into the backline.
Romeo Lavia will hope to make his first start of the season having recovered from an injury picked up at the Club World Cup, while Marc Guiu could get the nod up top if Pedro is not passed fit.
Estevao has also impressed in recent cameos off the bench, and may be in line for a third consecutive Premier League start.
Liverpool came away from Istanbul with a damning injury, as Alisson was forced off early. Slot has already confirmed he will not be involved, leaving Giorgi Mamardashvili to deputise between the sticks.
Hugo Ekitike also came off early in that match after tweaking his hamstring. Alexander Isak will be more likely to start at Stamford Bridge as a result.
Slot experimented with his squad to face Galatasaray, leaving Mohamed Salah out and using natural full-back Jeremie Frimpong on the right wing. Dominik Szoboszlai also returned to right-back.
Given the experiment did not yield the desired results, expect a more conventional lineup to face Chelsea.
Florian Wirtz’s performances have been highly criticised this week after he was ineffective against Galatasaray, and he could make way.
Giovanni Leoni is unavailable for the Reds, having torn his ACL.

This is an intriguing matchup, purely because both sides are desperate for a win.
Liverpool have proven inconsistent this season. They are continuing to score at an impressive rate, but are equally flimsy at the back.
They have developed a knack, too, for giving up leads.
Chelsea themselves are far from perfect this season, but if there is one thing they can do well, it is fight. They showed against Benfica their ability to win ugly, dragging out a gritty 1-0 win despite not being at their glittering best.
If they can do the same at the Bridge, they stand a good chance of coming away with a result.
