Tommy Connors, who was in his 40s, has been named locally after he tragically died following a ‘weather-related’ tragedy in Co Donegal on Friday, as Storm Amy hit the UK and Ireland

The man who tragically lost his life in a weather-related incident in Co Donegal on Friday has been identified locally.

Tommy Connors, a man in his 40s from Letterkenny, is believed to have died after falling from a shed roof.

The unfortunate event occurred around 4.15pm on Friday (October 3) afternoon amidst a Status Red weather warning in Donegal.

It’s reported that Mr Connors sadly passed away at the scene of the accident, which took place at a residential property.

His body was subsequently taken to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be performed in due course, reports Belfast Live.

Gardaí are continuing their investigations and state that the outcome of the post-mortem will guide the direction of their enquiries.

A spokesperson added that a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Tributes have been pouring in across social media for the late Mr Connors, who was a well-known figure in the Letterkenny community.

South of the border, around 184,000 homes, farms and businesses across the Republic of Ireland were plunged into darkness at 5:15pm during the storm.

The ESB confirmed that affected properties were mainly located in counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan and Donegal. It also cautioned that additional “power outages can be expected”.

A spokesperson revealed: “Crews will continue the restoration work for as long as possible this evening. But it is likely that the majority of customers will not have their power restored tonight due to the hazardous weather conditions and accessibility challenges.”

The UK Met Office predicted wind speeds could hit up to 80mph (130kph) along the most exposed coastal areas of the island, with toppled trees and power cuts amongst the potential consequences. Across Northern Ireland, a yellow wind warning was issued for the entire region from 2pm on Friday until midnight on Saturday.
