Louis Tomlinson has come forward to reveal he was the celebrity Robbie Williams was referring to when the Rock DJ legend shared a story about being called “much nicer” than another famous passenger on the same flight.
The Better Man hitmaker had discussed the demands of celebrity life and the expectation to always be available for fans earlier this year. He disclosed that despite feeling under the weather, he’d posed for selfies with cabin crew, who then praised him for being far more approachable than another star who had refused photographs.
Robbie, 51, posted on Instagram in April: “That made me bristle. I know that other celebrity – and he’s a lovely lad.”
He continued: “Who knows what was going on in his world that day?”, deliberately keeping the other celebrity’s identity under wraps.
Now, the One Direction star has revealed himself as the person in question, admitting he believes he’s the ‘lovely lad’ Robbie was defending. In an interview with Rolling Stone UK, Louis confessed: “Robbie never actually called me out on it, but I’m sure I was who he was talking about. I was right in the middle of my grief. I felt cross with the world, to be honest,” reports the Daily Record.
This occurred just months after his bandmate Liam Payne, 31, tragically plunged to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina, devastating millions worldwide. The remaining One Direction members – Louis, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles – each penned heartfelt tributes to their ‘brother’ whilst also issuing a collective statement.
They were present at Payne’s funeral in November and scrapped all scheduled performances and commitments indefinitely.
Speculation emerged in March suggesting the group might reform to honour Liam at the Brit Awards, but Louis’ representatives swiftly quashed the rumours.

He revealed to The Evening Standard: “Louis just despairs. He could never get up there and sing as part of the band after what has happened.”
During the fresh interview, Louis pondered on turning down fan photo requests and admitted: “What’s tough in that situation, psychologically, is that you know there’s no answer other than “Sorry, I’m a c**t. ” Because you know there’s no excuse you can make that can kind of alleviate that blow.”
He explained he suggested signing autographs as an alternative but faced letdown since ‘they can’t put them online like a photo’.
Louis, who has lived under the spotlight since his teenage years, acknowledged that such encounters ‘end up putting you off leaving the house next time, because you just think: “All I was doing there was trying to protect myself.'”.
The 33 year old has recently announced he’s dropping a fresh album for the first time in four years whilst also collaborating with former One Direction colleague Zayn on a documentary project.
Production has already begun on the pair’s multi-million pound Netflix travel documentary, which chronicles the vocalists as they journey across the US. The project is set to be released in 2026, marking exactly ten years since the band’s break up and eleven years after Zayn’s departure.
