EXCLUSIVE Luke Littler wants to hit a nine-darter in the World Grand Prix – and the last man he hit a nine-darter against has spoken to Daily Star Sport
Luke Littler has made no secret of his desire to hit a nine-darter at the World Grand Prix.
It’s been over a decade since the roof was raised during the major’s unique double-in, double-out format – but that doesn’t faze Littler, who so often laughs in the face of history.
Littler moved into the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix on Thursday – after a dominate display over reigning champion Mike De Decker – where he teased perfection. And speaking to Sky after the game he opened up on his dream to nail one.
He said: “I said to myself ‘let’s leave with a big one’. Mike definitely didn’t play his best so I had to jump on it and lead early.
“I am hitting the double 20 and as a player you can feel that nine-darter coming…This tournament is brutal. We have seen some shocks but I had to do my job.”
Littler was the last person to hit a televised nine-darter, doing-so against Josh Rock at the World Matchplay.
And speaking to Daily Star Sport last month, Rocky opened up on the moment: “I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest leg of all time.
“I’d still say Michael Van Gerwen and Michael Smith, because obviously Michael had a shot at it and Smith had a shot at it I didn’t get a shot at it because he just went ping.
“And the question I get asked is, ‘would you hit the nine darter? I’m like, ‘how on earth am I going to know if I’m going to hit the nine?’
“So I would say it was one of the best legs, but it definitely wasn’t the greatest leg…I knew Double 15 was going on because he doesn’t miss a lot of them!
“Because it’s right beside his double 10, so it was like one of the days. I said to him, I’m glad the first nine darter went I conceded was against him and he just went to ‘cheers boss’. That was it!”
