Sir David Attenborough is set to explore the wildlife of London in a new BBC programme, which will see the naturalist delve into the unique landscape of the city he has called home for 75 years

Sir David Attenborough is setting his sights on London’s wildlife in a fresh BBC programme.

The 99 year old naturalist, who has dedicated his life to globe-trotting adventures, is preparing to examine the distinctive terrain of the metropolis he has inhabited for 75 years in an hour-long special.

Created jointly by Passion Planet and the London Wildlife Trust, Wild London will explore “the incredible wild encounters to be experienced across his hometown”.

Featuring peregrines making their homes at the Houses of Parliament and foxes wandering through Tottenham, the documentary will champion nature’s tenacity “in the urban jungle”.

The show will also spotlight schemes designed to “encourage nature back into the city”, reports MyLondon.

The show’s producers hint:

“Whether it’s pigeons commuting by tube, snakes slithering along Regent’s canal, parakeets raiding city parks or beavers building a home next to a busy shopping centre, David reveals the incredible wild encounters to be experienced across his hometown.”

The BBC has confirmed that Sir David will feature “in vision throughout”, branding the venture as a “personal and poignant film”.

Katie Bowyer, Director of Development, commented:

“London Wildlife Trust is delighted to be co-producing Wild London. Our city has incredible wildlife on its doorstep, and we’re excited to see it brought to life for the nation to enjoy.”

She continued:

“But this wildlife is under threat, which is why it’s vital to showcase it – so people understand what we risk losing if we don’t act. Only by protecting and restoring nature today can we ensure it thrives for future generations.”

Executive producer Tom Hugh-Jones promised viewers the programme would deliver “that Attenborough magic at its very best”.

He explained: “Wild London captures that Attenborough magic at its very best – presenting in vision throughout the film, having up-close encounters with animals and talking intimately about his own wildlife experiences.”
