The 14-year-old boy was left with a life-threatening bite wound to the chest after he was attacked by a shark in the waters off the coast of Queensland, Australia

A 14 year old lad was suddenly seized by a seabeast, leaving him with a life-threatening chest wound.

His courageous mates yanked him out of the water just after 6:20pm on Saturday. The youngster suffered severe blood loss and critical injuries to his abdomen and internal organs, according to ABC.

The group of teens were enjoying their time at Cook Esplanade island in Australia when the attack occurred shortly after the victim entered the water.

Torres Shire Council Mayor Elsie Seriat revealed that the lads managed to save their mate by pulling him from the water. This comes after a British tourist shared a harrowing tale of a shark attack in Jamaica, saying ‘I thought I was going to die’, reports the Express.

Urgent surgery required

The teen was swiftly transported to the nearby Thursday Island Hospital by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

He was later airlifted to Townsville University Hospital in North Queensland for “urgent surgery”, the council announced.

Mayor Seriat expressed in a statement: “This incident is very unfortunate, and our hopes and prayers go out to the boy and his family at this difficult time.

“Public safety is of paramount importance for the Council, and we strongly encourage everyone to be mindful and aware of the dangers in our surrounding waters and to always use good judgment.”

Community reeling from the attack

“Our small community feels this deeply.

“We know many people are thinking of the young boy, his friends and their families.

“Please continue to keep them in your hearts and prayers.”

The type of shark responsible for the attack has yet to be confirmed by authorities.

British swimmer survives double shark attack

In a related incident, a British swimmer disclosed his survival from a double shark attack during a marathon swimming challenge.

Christopher Murray, 50, was undertaking a swim across the Catalina Channel off Los Angeles when he was attacked by two great white sharks.

The first predator struck mid-swim, sinking its razor-sharp teeth into Christopher’s hand.

Moments later, another set of jaws clamped onto his right foot.

Despite his near-death encounter, Christopher admitted he felt no pain and was more annoyed about having to abandon his marathon swim.
