Rebekah Campbell was murdered by her partner Michael Ormandy, but following a lengthy trial in Liverpool, texts from the victim revealed she was afraid of what he could do to her

A woman chillingly predicted that she would eventually be murdered by her partner. This later came true, with her being stabbed a total of 27 times by her jealous boyfriend.

Rebekah Campbell was 32 when she suffered the stab wounds inside her own home at Knowsley Heights in the Huyton area of Liverpool this April. Police would go on to arrest her boyfriend Michael Ormandy in connection with the death, although he insisted he had been acting in self defence.

Just three days before the attack, Ormandy — who had been branded a “jealous and possessive” man — had left Rebekah with a black eye after suspecting her of getting with other men. He then went to have sex with another woman at a hotel, before going back to Liverpool just hours before she was killed.

The Liverpool Echo reported that Rebekah could be heard screaming “get out, go away Mick” during the altercation on April 15. Liverpool Crown Court heard that Mick had donned a bulletproof vest when he burst into her house unannounced and carried out the vicious attack.

Merseyside Police were called to the scene in just a matter of minutes, with Rebekah pleading with officers to save her life. Officers giving testimony said that the 31-year-old had asked them if she was “gonna die”, while they tried in vain to save her.

In the wake of the attack, Ormandy would then call the police and threaten to be wearing a “suicide vest” that he would use to “blow everyone up”. When he was later arrested in connection with Rebekah’s death, he insisted she “must have stabbed herself”.

The court also heard from prosecutors how Rebekah had been on the phone with good pal Faye Henderson at the time the attack took place. Faye revealed she had heard Rebekah try to fend off the killer before hearing a “loud bang” and the sound of puppies barking, by which point the line “went quiet”.

Prosecutor David McLachlan KC said the incident came as the culmination of a toxic and abusive relationship between the couple, with Rebekah seemingly “ready to end it”. In the days leading up to her murder, Michael and Rebekah had several sustained arguments, resulting in Ormandy delivering striking blows to his partner, leaving her with black eyes.

Text messages between the couple showed Rebekah had been scared but defiant, with her writing: “I want to go home to my bed; I don’t want to see you. I’m scared of you now; I don’t wanna know what you would do to me behind closed doors.”

On the day of the attack, Rebekah tried to break off the relationship, saying she would be mates with Ormandy, but would never be romantic with him again. “I’m not having you calling me a s***, causing s*** with my family and friends over me singing with my mates,” she wrote, “the way you have acted is not normal.”

Appearing in court, Ormandy claimed that Rebekah had the knife and was lunging at him, saying the attack happened in self-defence. However, this was eventually debunked after it emerged he only had one small cut to his hand, compared to 27 major lacerations for Rebekah.

Micahel Ormandy was convicted by a unanimous jury of Rebekah’s murder on Wednesday (October 15), with cheers coming from family and friends in the gallery when the convictions were passed. The 34-year-old was later sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum sentence of 24 years.
