Tammy Carvey reached out to artificial intelligence to help choose the numbers for her next lottery flutter, but little did she know she would be raking in the cash thanks to it

A woman has won thousands of pounds in the lottery after letting ChatGPT pick her numbers for her. Thanks to the generated numbers, she was able to secure a huge cash prize.

45-year-old Tammy Carvey from Wyandotte in the US state of Michigan confirmed she used artificial intelligence to help decide what numbers she placed. It was down to this decision that she won a total of $100,000 — around £74,000.

When asked why she decided to place the bet, Tammy said she was only putting a slip in in order to try her luck. She explained she had no idea on what numbers would work best, so she turned to her phone for help.

Speaking to UPI, Tammy explained: “I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there and the jackpot was over $1 billion so I bought a ticket. I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played on my ticket.”

Whilst Tammy was unfortunate enough to miss out on the $1billion jackpot, the numbers did throw up some major prizes for her instead. In total, the ticket matched four white balls and the bonus ball during the draw on September 6, which helped her to net a cool $50,000.

However, her lucky streak did not end there as she had opted to play the Power Play option. This, in turn, helped to double her winnings, giving her a final winnings total of $100,000 to spend.

Initially, Tammy said she was confused about the disparity between what she thought she had won and what was given to her. “When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball and knew I had to have won something,” she recalled.

“Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won,” she continued. “It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000! My husband and I were in total disbelief.”

Tammy already has some big plans for her lottery winnings as she is looking to use the money to help pay off the house she currently owns with her husband. On top of this, the boost in finances will help to top up her savings.

This is not the first time that $100,000 has been won due to bizarre circumstances however. Back in July, a woman was able to win the lottery for the second time in the span of four years, netting herself the same money completely by accident.

The unnamed woman from the US state of Maryland had a similar run-through with her own classic win. She had initially won just $50,000 thanks to the state lottery company, but one mistake had meant that she could bag another $50,000 in the process.

According to her testimony, the woman had been meaning to buy two tickets for a particularly high value draw, but accidentally bought three. But thanks to the third accidental ticket, she was able to win the remainder of her cash.

Meanwhile, the woman had already had a taste of success at the lottery, having already won $100,000 in 2021 after she had won the money through a bingo-themed scratch card. When asked on how she could believe the lucky streak, she explained: “That this could happen to me again, it’s just mind-boggling.”
