Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has revealed his reasoning behind selecting Matheus Cunha over Benjamin Sesko for today’s clash with Liverpool.
The Red Devils head to Anfield this afternoon hoping to capitalise on their 2-0 triumph over Sunderland before the international break.
Liverpool, by contrast, have endured a torrid spell recently, suffering defeats in their last three outings across all competitions.
Should United emerge victorious today, it would mark the first occasion Amorim has managed consecutive wins since arriving at Old Trafford in November last year.
Prior to kick-off, the Portuguese manager outlined his team selection to Sky Sports, which also sees Leny Yoro make way for Harry Maguire.
“I don’t want to say a lot before the game,” Amorim said.
“Harry Maguire has a lot of experience, they have a lot of crosses also he gives us more power in set pieces which is really important nowadays in the Premier League.
“And Cunha returning to the team, he is one player who has one characteristic that can push the team forward.
“I think Konate and Van Dijk like the confrontation in the air so we will try to give them different [problems] to try and win the game.”
Following a challenging start to the season, United could find themselves in an encouraging position with victory today.
The Red Devils would sit just two points behind Liverpool should they secure their first Anfield success since 2016.
